Well, for my first playthrough I am siding with no one since I kinda wanna play the part of the lonely cowboy. After the game has been modified quite heavily by my friends at newvegasnexus I will do a play through preferably as an evil little girl as a part of the Legion.

If you are talking about if this were the real world I would not side with any of those awful factions.

Is this the new one? Is it worth buying? I was trying to find it on Amazon, for the cheap, but the reviews all seemed to say it wasn't worth buying right now, with the bugs and shit.

Brotherhood... I mean, they reactivated a 40ft Anti-Communist Robot and used it to destroy the remnants of the US government...

I'd say get it. People are pedantic shits and can throw tantrums over the smallest bugs, personally i've not had any troubles. They've released a few patches for it since.

Basically, same as Fallout 3 bug wise, tons more cool shit though. Defiantly worth it. People are whiny shits.

Though there's really no faction that I'm fond of. I chose Brotherhood of Steel because they are a (literally) underground movement. Oh, and I hate NCR.

OK, cool. I'm still gonna try to find it on the cheap, but that's what I've been hearing from friends and shit. I'm trying to look out for the difference between the bugs that make the game look funky sometimes and the bugs that make you just say fuck it, if that makes any sense.

DO NOT BUY THE GAME! I love it, but if you have a decent pc you should steal it. If you are a console gamer I think it is a good purchase. It is a LOT better than Fallout 3, but you will still see a lot of the same bugs since it is running on the same old ass engine as oblivion.

I'll always be Midwestern Brotherhood, as it was the only hard left faction in the entire Fallout universe.

Cesar's Legion are Barbarians, they kill randomly too "weak" people, I kill them with fun, and I cut of the heads of the Decanus with my Machete^^

NCR want to bring Democracy, but I don't like them in general, they fucked things up at Bitter Springs, and they are Imperialists.

I like the BoS, but they are strange.

Although having a militantly socialist faction would be fun, but I can't see where it would fit.

Off-topic question: So the Redbox has video games now, which is awesome. I just rented New Vegas, and something occurred to me: If the game is $2 a day, and it maxes out at 25 days, isn't it cheaper to just keep the Redbox disc ($50) than to actually buy it? I mean, it's used, but I think there's something I'm not thinking about here. Anyone wanna talk me out of it?

I am getting really fed up with New Vegas. Obsidian really outdid themselves snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. They had half to three-quarters of the problems of making a video game already solved; They were making a sequal to a wildly successful game, on the same platform. They had a game engine, they had an aesthetic style, they had a fully established universe to set their story in, and they were following up on one of the most successful and beloved video games for the Xbox 360. All they had to do...was, essentially, make another Fallout 3. I beat Fallout 3 and all the expansion packs and I only ran into, maybe two, or at most, three broken quests. Fallout 3 froze on me perhaps two or three times. New Vegas is a broken, glitchy mess. It freezes at regular intervals, I have experienced almost a dozen broken quests, which cannot be completed, one of my companions is permanently stuck inside the geometry of a mountain, so I can't even dismiss him and get a new one, The Thorn glitches every single time I go in, etc., etc. I downloaded the new patch, and it hasn't made any noticeable difference. I almost want to praise Obsidian for fucking up so badly, for fumbling what should have been a slam dunk. Let's hope Bethesda makes the next one.

The PS3 is by no significant measure 'superior.' If that's the case, you're lucky. I was just comisserating with a PS3 owner I used to work with about all the glitches and broken quests. There have been voluminous complaints for every version of the game, PC, XBOX, and PS3. The game is fatally flawed. I actually just sold mine today, I just gave up. Obsidian really fumbled the ball. I sincerely hope Bethesda makes the next one, they seem to have their act together.

The PC version is superior, as you can have mods. Many of the quests have been fixed by patches now. But the Gamebryo engine they use is very tempremental and can work perfectly on one system and then not at all on another.

That's the thing, with the pc game you can put in some code and fix it, whereas I'm totally fucked.

So I wound up keeping this game from the Redbox; with regards to its problems, I think it's more or less inevitable that a game this ambitious is going to have some issues. The scope of it is pretty amazing.

Anyways, random note: I was talking to Caesar, and I thought to myself, "I know this voice from somewhere. Some mafia movie or something," so I look it up and it's Bill "you, McNulty, are a gaping asshole" Rawls. I know Danny Trejo is in it, too; seems like they picked some pretty good people for this one.

Normally, I would accept that. However, I put over 60 hours into Bethesda's Fallout 3, and I played all four expansion packs to completion. I only experienced maybe two broken quests, and it froze maybe two or three times, the entire time I played it. There's no reason why there should be such a precipitous increase in bugs and glitches considering it's, fundamentally, the same game. I don't buy that.

Between the "America Fuck Yeah" patriotism of Fallout 3 and the mewling, sanctimonious liberal libertarian whining about big government in New Vegas, one has to wonder why this game franchise is such a hot item for a leftist forum.

I assume it's the same misguided impulse that led Kasama to brand the Matrix series as communist films.

There are a shit-ton of problems with New Vegas, of course, but I would say that if or when they get fixed, people will recognize the vast ambition of it. Without the technical issues, it's really about five times the game that Fallout 3 was.
