VIOLENCE BETWEEN GARDAÍ and protesters has broken out in Dublin after demonstrators were allegedly forced out of the Department of Finance by gardaí in riot gear (http://www.rte.ie/news/2010/1103/education.html), RTÉ reports.
The demonstrators had reportedly gathered at the Merrion Row office of the Department of Finance earlier today. A spokesperson for the Department told TheJournal.ie that a “small number” of protesters had gathered for a sit-down protest in the lobby of the building.
Sources at the protest suggested that it was members of leftwing political movements who led the attack on the Department of Finance, and not the students.
RTÉ reports that some protestors had bloody noses and one person was brought away, possibly unconscious.
Eyewitnesses at the protests posted updates to their Twitter accounts.

Another charge by riot police at students. Horses charging at everyone. Crazy stuff here #studentprotest

Several hundred students staged a sit-down protest outside the building earlier in the day as part of a bigger protest, staged against the increase of third level registration fees.
Tens of thousands of students have taken to the streets of Dublin today

Yeah it was a great idea alright. It seemed to take with it most of the students as well. I especially like the taxi driver at the start of that video clip. He made a great point.

Point well taken...but you cant get sued for libel talking about the Gardaí on an internet forum without them breaking the law themselves. So, in otherwords....speak!
