Where is it possible to find Soviet historians work in english?

I was reading an article about the Balkans and Ottoman Empire and it mentioned how Soviet historians such as N.A. Smirnov, V.A. Gordlevsky and Krachovsky have all made valuable contributions to the study of Ottoman society.

Im not neccesarily looking for these authors work, but the work of Soviet historians in general (except stuff like the official history of the Bolsheviks from the 1930s)

How well respected internationally were Soviet historians when speaking on non-Soviet history?

How indepedent were they? Obviously im assuming they used historical materialism, but how rigidly did they have to apply it?(im thinking more in the post-Stalin era)

Actually, dont just include Soviet historians in this discussion. What about from other (what i would call) Socialist states?

The article im reading when mentioning Marxist historians from the Balkans seems to put them in the same catagory as the Nationalist historians from the Balkans. This may be becuase they were writing state histories so just focussed on the history of the state they were in, but it wouldnt surprise me if many of the Marxist historians of Balkan states tainted their work with nationalism.

Can we please try and keep discussion on the nature of the said States and the authenticity of their socialism/marxism to a minimum please

Here is one of the best articles on wikipedia on the topic http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_Orientalist_studies_in_Islam

Leninist.biz has a good few soviet historical textbooks. Foreign Languages Press Peking, produced a good few general histories of China of varying length as well as more detailed histories post-1840.
