an article by alan woods of the international marxist tendency: http://venezuelanalysis.com/analysis/5750
it's pretty long so i won't copy and paste it into this post but it is a good read. it is clearly a propaganda piece aimed at the average venezuelan worker rather than an inter-leftist intellectual piece but in my opinion that gives it an added clarity and lack of pretension. it explores some practical and pragmatic issues around the recent elections and reaffirms the need for the nationalising of the banks and major monopolies under worker's control.

The same place Russia went (if they rush it) unless the advanced capitalist nations turn to socialism. The United States influence is too strong in South America. History has shown what the US will do to keep socialism from manifesting "in it's back yard". I support Venezuela but if they attempt to build socialism in one country it will just be another "example" the bourgeoisie can use to "show socialism fails".
I know Chavez is doing the "Bank Of The South" thing but Venezuelan oil reserves aren't enough to facilitate advanced communism (material abundance via industry) nor is trade with Iran. Where are the resources? Where is the large industry (other than oil production)? If he moves to abolish private property I see the US using Columbia as a base of clandestine attack and the serious possibility of conflict with Iran.
I think Chavez should take his time and set up some more concrete trade agreements with other South American nations. Work on using oil revenues to industrialize Venezuela. Use the Bank Of The South to cut the ties between other South American nations and the IMF/World Bank.

Back on topic. I seriously doubt Venezuela can achieve advanced communism on it's own. I'd like to see Chavez stick to his plan of helping other South American nations industrialize while cutting their parasitic ties to World bank/IMF. South America may be able to go socialist if they are united in the cause. It's our job in the US to have a ZERO tolerance for US government intervention in South America.

As long as Venezuela is keeping its ties with Russia-Iran-China, I m gonna be very careful about my support.

I agree, however it should be noted that, personally, I do support PSUV and Chavez within the context of popular struggle, slow shift of power and anti-imperialism. Maybe the term "critical support" would suffice.

Agree.
The changes need to go international. At least as international as the continent of South America.

Who are they going to trade with? The US? If socialism is to have an even slim chance of developing in Venezuela they're going to need advanced capitalist nations help ie Russia, China and Iran.

There is no Venezuelan Revolution. This is about as silly as when Woods called the Iranian uprisings a "revolution".

Way to compare two completely different things.

I didn't compare them, Woods did when he called them both revolutions. Which was what I was calling silly. Which is the point you're making. So you agree with me, then.

Either there's going to be a workers revolution or there's going to be a restoration of neoliberal capitalism.
