We are all yearning for a revolution to rid ourselves of the scourge of capitalism, but what about after that, how can we ensure that the higher state of communism is realised and we are truly harmonized.

I guess you could say our system of capitalism works today. It oppresses many people, fosters an attitude of greed and unfairness but it works in a fashion; we don’t all die due to starvation of homicide. Maybe similar to how slavery works. But just because a system works, does not mean with either have to be happy or tolerate it. So what of Marxism-Leninism and communism. Well I’m sure most of us would agree that this is too a
system, indeed a much better and fairer system that we strive for. But any system has its flaws, and should we not try and address them. I think it is important that if we were to achieve a revolution and institute a dictatorship of the proletariat then we must also be clear on our next step. We talk of the withering away of the state and full democracy in our society. In human history we have never achieved this fully. Look at China, Cuba, and the Soviet union; all very different examples but why did they not progress further to true communism? Why did they still use currency and allow personal possessions? I think it is imperative that if we reach a point where we are ready to take the final step to true communism then society must be completely purged of the influence of capitalism, self interest and greed and committed to altruism. We cannot force these traits on the masses they have to choose them for themselves. It is as important for the ex peasants in the fields, as it is for the ex landowners to embrace the full spirit of the revolution and all of its aims. To achieve this we have to understand human psychology and the fundamentals that makes us feel greed and serve our self interested goals. If we have shelter and warmth and enough food for our next meal then why should we not assist our neighbour in meeting their needs? We need to make this leap and until we do we can’t achieve our ultimate aims.
