Greetings to all,
I am new to revleft. I have been a devout Stalinist growing up in a family that prospered in a long military service to the Soviet Union. From what I have seen on the board so far, however, it seems many of us have quite conflicting views, hopefully we can move past our differences in the spirit of comradery and work together more efficiently for the socialist cause.

well i think "Stalinist" is a bad word to describe your pollitical and ideological views since it is too strict and describes nothing :) .
Nevertheless , welcome to the board

Devout? What is this religion?

Devout? What is this religion?
One could define religion as something one believes in and follows devotedly; a point or matter of ethics or conscience, or simply strict faithfulness and devotion, so yes, I suppose you can classify my political affiliations as a religion if you want to.

No, a religion has to do with faith in the supernatural. What you said can be applied to any political creed.

Yup there is a whole movement to make Stalin a saint in the Orthodox Church. The fact that he was a hardcore atheist and communist bastard seems to be lost on them.

Considering "stalinism" is intended as a slur, I guess when you throw shit long enough it sticks to some people.

Stalinism is communism for the strong willed. Believe what you'd like, I never took it as an insult and proudly described myself as one for a very long time.

But you can still be devoted to a political creed, can't you? And someone who is devoted, a devotee, is devout.

Stalin was a seminary student in his youth and reopened Orthodox Churches during WWII, so there's an avenue for the church to claim him as its son, even if they had a frayed relationship.
In Nineteenth-Century France there was also a movement to canonize Emperor Napoleon I. Even though he had been a Jacobin revolutionary as a young man, as head of state Bonaparte made amends (concordat) with the church. Like Stalin is revered by many "Putinists" today and sometimes still even venerated by the Russian state, Napoleon I was apparently useful to the bourgeois Second Empire, and some of its religious establishment, as a nationalist icon who was popularly identified with the good old days.

well if you call marxism-leninism a "religion" you should really read Stalin himself on this topic, of scientific socialism. To follow anything devoutly besides devoutly being against dogma's and universial truth is a metaphysical analysis.

Greetings. You mention being a stalinst. I wondered what you view on this might be.
Stalin was criticised for being very brutal with those who did not agree with the cause. But i would argue that it is very important to have a true cause and have discapline within that. Those who pretend to be with you plot against you are your enemy?
