I just searched "ugly logo" on google, and quite a few came up. I'm not too bothered about logos. The thing that bothers me is when signs have bad grammar or spelling.

For those who don't know that's the logo of New Democracy, an anti-immigration populist (but not actually fascist like the Sweden democrats) party that sat one term in the Swedish parliament once. I was trying to look for their song, which was even more hilariously pathetic than the logo, on youtube without success the other day.

The Anaheim "Mighty Ducks", before they changed their logo and name to simply the "Ducks".

The original business that became shell petrol actually started off by selling decorative sea shells.

this is what happens when you put overpaid untalented executives together with too much time on their hands in a focus meeting with a copy of photoshop.

I think this is a fucking monstrous logo. It is owned by the french multinational call centre that has a chokehold on the labour market in this town.

I'm not sure who that is. The leaders were two major league morons; count Ian Wachtmeister and Bert Karlsson, the latter of whom the logo vaguely reminds of. I think it's supposed to look like him, although he is actually even uglier in person.

As a matter of fact he is one of the ugliest persons that I've ever seen.

Please don't read any opinions about the organisations themselves into the following.

The logo of the 4th International (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/de/Logo_of_the_Fourth_International.svg) and this one used by RAAN (http://anarchistnews.org/files/pictures/sicklea.jpg) are shite (RAAN also employs other logos, and with good reason). Compare them with the logo of the DPRK's ruling party: You have a hammer representing the workers, a sickle representing peasants, a brush representing intellectuals. They have a monument with a giant concrete hand holding the hammer, a giant concrete hand holding the sickle, a giant concrete hand holding the brush.

Now imagine a slightly different monument: You have a giant concrete hand holding a hammer, a giant concrete hand holding a sickle, and finally a giant concrete hand holding...

a) a number (4th International)
b) a letter of the alphabet (RAAN)

Is this fucking Sesame Street or what. I could maybe tolerate a logo where different tools form a letter or a number, but not this.

Another problem with these 2 logos is how their elements are entwined. The point of having entwined elements is to communicate 2 things, equality among the parts represented by the elements (an element that is completely on top of another one invites the interpretation that the former is dominating over the latter) and unity. But this only works if the combined elements also form a harmonious shape, otherwise it looks like something that shouldn't be entangled and you have to arduously sort it out, like a case of massive cable spaghetti.

So all what these 2 logos end up communicating is intellectual incoherence.

The flag of the GDR (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a1/Flag_of_East_Germany.svg) also sucks, too many details.

When designing a logo, consider that it should be easy to reproduce (stencil) and very recognisable, that means a version that only uses 2 colours (that number includes the background) and no gradients (fuck gradients, seriously) has to be identifiable from a blurry photo showing somebody wearing a sweater inherited from grandpa with that logo.

That's only a problem if you limit your monuments to hands holding things. I think that RAAN symbol for example would look good as a massive front-piece to a suitably impressive building, rendered in bronze. But then I have a bit of a thing for enormous faceless constructs built in a quasi-Soviet agitprop style.

It's just the idea of a vending machine giving you something that's already synonymous with the epitome of consumerized food (aka hamburgers).

It's a real Dutch thing which you don't see anywhere else:

That said, we don't have a FEBO here in the south, just Smullers and a local friture having a "wall".
