"The antiwar activists issued grand jury subpoenas after last week’s FBI raids in Minneapolis and Chicago could face jail time for their political support for third world movements the US declares to be “terrorist,” an attorney familiar with the defense case told the World Socialist Web Site."
Has Obama used the state to silence opposition (of course)? If this had been done under Bush wouldn't we be in the streets en mass? I just want to know, I really want to know what the fuck is going on in America. Can we , in this thread, try to put our fingers on exactly whats going on? Thanks in advance :)

Patriot Act. It happened. So did Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo Bay and a bunch of other anti-human-rights actions that Obama hasn't even bothered to end. Big surprise, huh? We weren't in the streets en masse then, so we won't be now. We just let the shit happen and thought "this'll be over once there's a new president." Big fucking surprise, it wasn't.

This is sad because it's true. One of the few solists i take in obama, is that while he's there, we don't have to worry about some republican douchebag running the country.
Looks like freedom of thaught, freedom of speech, have whirled down the toilet. What ever happened to "America, land of the free" heh

I blame the 'evil alliance' between us socialists and liberals. It needs to end. Obama is nothing, it's the people who will demand certain things of whoever is in office or demand a whole change in our socioeconomic system. We've silenced ourselves. Of course Obama was just another representative of concentrated wealth- thats how our representative 'democracy' is set up but I'm more so talking about the inactively of many of us so called radicals and revolutionary socialists. I never once held any illusions about any democrat in office no matter what position. I did think we as a nation might have been ready to demand a social shift. I didn't expect Obama do do much different than Bush but I also didn't expect the amount of sycophantic apologetic excuse making for him that I see in my community and the US left at large. I'd say the bourgeoisie's trick has worked. I tip my hat to the capitalists. They're smart.
They've managed to 'frame the social debates' in so creating an extreme false dichotomy by putting Obama in while creating opposition to him so in the end there is only a choice between the bourgeois agenda and the bourgeois agenda. It's almost genius, the social manipulation I see happening around me. Evil genius. I wish more people could see it. EDIT: I guess this topic is like the plague? In my humble opinion it is the no 1 problem socialists face in America. A marginalized and brainwashed left.
