These choices were conceived by Danton. I know most of us like more than one type of music, but this is just for your absolute favorite type. Sorry, but polls can not be made in Music, so i had to make it here, i suppose it's no problem.

I was going to vote Drum n Bass, but it wasn't there so I voted Techno instead. Does that count as a spoilt vote?

I voted for Others because I'm in love with Opera !!! but I like many others.... the options are limited int this poll. I like reggae, pop, hip hop, rock, latin, Indian music, soul but I truly hate techno

I voted for others because...well, why the fuck is punk mixed with alternative.

I enjoy Oi, Street Punk, Punk, and Ska.

Dr. Rosenpenis

isn't hip hop like rap?

soul83
9th August 2003, 20:49
I think rap is kind of talking to music and hip hop is rap but with a beat added to it, it has got a typical sound like take Without me by Eminem and compare it to Work it by Missy Elliot, one is rap the other is hip hop I think....

Anyone who knows better please post because even I want to know more.

nah, you don't have what I like listed. It's so much easier to say that I don't like music than to go through receiving those strange looks

I like natural rythems, not like the latin music.... or maybe similar, but more african in sound. Since latin music, expecially Cuban, is a mixture of african, spanish, and creole sounds. I'll go with latin, but I really want to choose African..... not North African because there is some Arab sound there (the Doumbek*, etc, they have a vastly different sound!!!) but more West/Central African is what I like :)

nice, deep, natural drum rythems ^_^

* the doumbek is an Arab hand drum...... I like hand drums, but not this one in particular :P

EDIT: I went with "others" as my choice, I couldn't bring myself to click "latin/world" when that wasn't exactly what I was looking for :)

Godamn it, what is EMO? I have seen people say it on this board like 5 times and I have asked several times but have yet to get a response. I have to know.

I chose other because my music likes change every 2 months.

Hindi music from India, I am getting into Cuban/Latin music ever since some big time singer of it died a few weeks ago, Franks Sinatra and Dean Martin still listening to them. A lot of French music right now like Alizee, and of course as always listening to my Archers, Built to Spill, Public Enemy, Boogie Down Productions with KSR 1, No Knife, Tatu, and Pulp.

I think that somebody who is under the age of 30 and likes listening to Frank Sinatra, that should be considered Alternative music.

Wow, that told me everything and nothing. I am suprised that somebody on this board gave me a link to SA, I thought I was the only SA fan around here.

So it is a genre, okay, so I was thinking it was like Electronic Music Up or something... But now I have some type of understanding, as cloudy and vauge as it is. Thank you for the link.

It's basically emotional and depressed punk where suburban rebellious kids complain about how miserable their lives are and how hard it is living in the "hood" when Kentucky Fried Chicken have ran out of Pepsi

Hip-hop is basically rap. An MC raps to a beat. It became popular in the 80's with people rapping over old records. They experimented with records to find beats that sounded good, mixing parts from different songs and eventually altering them electronically and nowadays simply creating their own backing music very often.

Eminem is a suburban pop-artist with a whiny voice, although his rapping ability is technically very good. Eminem is hip-hop, the music industry can call it rap though.

Anyone else into Hip-Hop, must be since 4 people voted for it.

Anyway, I enjoy: Esham, Insane Clown Posse, Public Enemy, Blaze, ABK, Cypress Hill, Beastie Boys, eazy-e, 2 pac etc.

I picked Latin/world (since I love Cuban music, Pop en español, Latin jazz, Ragas, Music in Hindi, Arabic music, foreign hip-hop, etc.), though I like jazz, American hip-hop, American rap, soul, R&B, and reggae also.

Who else picked Latin/world?

As far as I'm concerned, Rap is the type where the lyrics focus more on material possessions such as cash, ho's, crack, marijuana, ice, bling bling, etc and/or laying pipe (Think Master P, Playa Fly, Three 6 Mafia, Cash Money, Ludacris, Cam'ron, and Chingy) while Hip-Hop is the type that is more socially conscious and/or doesn't talk about the subjects previously mentioned (IE: Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Nas, Black Star, Tupac, Outkast, and sometimes Em). That's just how I see it. But, whether you perform rap or hip-hop, you're a rapper. Hip-hopper is a stupid term.

how can you put punk and alternetive together

Danton
11th August 2003, 10:18
I put punk/alt because punk was basically alternative to pop music, punk also could include what some term "indie" ie; independent music "DIY" labels...it's not perfect because we are limited to ten.....Drum & bass/jungle etc... would come under techno but maybe I should have called it electronica.....Whatever...

The polling function remains intact, so there :)

I voted Rock, but I like to listen to as many genres as my brain can handle...

Eww kenny g reminds me of weird Al. Kenny can shove that annoying little flute of his. Anyways...I chose "other" cus If all the options were one option that's what I'd pick. (Except for techno Ewww!) Even then it wouldn't be that accurate. Oh yeah except for country music too. Well maybe the old skool country's ok. I'm such a weirdo :P

Well...i grew up on NWA lol so maybe I can share my interpretation...I think Hip Hop is the general term of African American music as its morphed...from blues to jazz to r&b and now to hip hop...basically its the wider category that includes rap but also soul and r&b....
Rock for example is the big term that includes alternative..metal..industrial etc.

III dunno....thats my 2 cents...correct me if i'm wrong lol
