Some facts I took down from a Euronews broadcast some while back. i've no online source, but I don't really care if you think I'm lying. Just some interesting stats.
In the European Union:
56 million people live below the official poverty line.
15% of the population (one in eight people) live in a house where nobody works.
In South America:
The income per person growth from 1960 - 1980 was
+75%
The income per person growth from 1980 - 2000 was
+7%
In Africa:
The income per person growth from 1960 - 1980 was
+35%
The income per person growth from 1980 - 2000 was
-15%
In the United States of America:
The median wage is the same now as it has been for the past 27 years.
From 1946 - 1973 it grew by 80%.
