The Spanish company TechnoRobot has introduced here the RiotBot – a new class of unmanned platform designed for intervention in riots, prison disturbances, or other civil disorders, where neutralization of specific elements is required by law enforcement agents, avoiding direct contact with the crowd. By operating with effective non lethal means to suppress, or deactivate a target without the presence of personnel, RiotBot can eliminate potential threats while minimizing escalation typically caused by police intervention.

18Kg? Amateurs build gladiatorial robots that are heavier than that (up to 150Kg), and by the looks of it that thing has no self-righting mechanism.

I could put 18kg of robot in a bag.
Seriously though, that thing is not only creepy but based on shaky logic. If they think 'personel' cause escalation, imagine some rioters getting attacked by a fucking robot: they'd go ballistic on all the private property they could get their hands on. Its what rioters tend to do when the popo are too far away.
But then again, we're all assuming its sold with the weapons system advertised. Whack a sound cannon on that, some teargas dispensers and a tazer and it'll probably kill a riot straight up.

question will just be, who from us will invent the best PUR (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyurethane) bomb? :thumbup1:

Yes, I was hearing that the bourgeois were expanding their weaponry against domestic disputes, but this is new to me. I have heard that the bourgeois were attempting to build some kind of overhead bomb that would calm rioting crowds and cause them to disperse. That actually kind of scares the shit out of me, because it makes the revolution much harder to enact.

Then you go run up and kick it in the shemps and we'll see how well you do before we try.

1. Get a comrade to distract the attention of the operator.
2. Jam a longish, pole-like object end-first under the chassis - broom handle, pool cue, whatever's available. Between the wheels is best so as to jam them and make sure the robot doesn't just roll away.
3. Utilise the now gained leverage advantage (as famously quipped by Archimedes) to flip the robot onto it's back for great justice.
4. ??????
5. PROFIT!!! (or not, as the case may be)
Failing that, you could bludgeon the camera (the little thing on the turret with the lens) with a suitably heavy blunt instrument, forcing the operator to either come out of whatever hole they're hiding in to see where they are going (and thus opening themselves up to attack) or abandon the now-even-more-useless robot.
Seriously, at best this is a niche piece of kit that will see limited deployment, and at worst it's a techy-toy boondoggle designed to cash in on the current craze for military drones. People are willing to vent their spleen quite freely against helmeted and armoured riot cops, and I imagine they would have no qualms whatsoever against lashing out with maximum force against a faceless robotic foe that doesn't even look remotely human. Sure, I imagine that they built this thing to be tough, but tough enough to survive the undiluted anger of a mob so stirred up they'd rather send in robots than actual people? I'm doubtful.
We should be laughing, not despairing. The time to despair is when they start sending in things like this:

You could also use off the shelf RF jamming devices to block the signals from the operators to the robot.
Of course a petrol bomb should melt the tires disabling it.

That thing is not built for combat. It has rubber tyres and even the fucking cables to the gun are on show. A gasmask, spray paint for the camera and some pliers, its nothing more than a riot trophy.
Some flying pepperball Drone would be better if they want to start getting all dystopian on our asses... at least it would be able to deal with building occupations like we saw at the Student demo
