Alright, first time ever to write an introduction, so bear with me.
I'm a 19-year-old girl from southern Finland, an English major and first time forum user.
I'm currently not a member of any political organisation, haven't found one around here I'd like (most major parties are right-wing and the ones that aren't, aren't that much better I'm afraid).
I'm the daughter of an immigrant who, sadly, was discriminated all my life (I say my life, since he wasn't discriminated all his life) and I basically grew up hating most of Finland and its politics (not that it's a bad thing, the parties here suck). Every year this country seems to get worse and worse and everyone else seems just glad of this change. I'm hoping that after finding such a lovely site as this, I might be able to gather a bit of my lost hope for the future and start fighting back as well as I can.
Anyway, nice to meet you all!

Welcome :)

Do you have any specific political views?

Well nothing that I could start labeling off-hand. I do have specific views on specific things but probably no clear ideology behind them, haven't really done much studying into the subject so I don't know if I fall under any certain category :) one of the reasons why I'm so happily reading the learning section.

And thank you :) very nice to be here.

And I did actually see it, but thank you very much! I haven't yet joined, I'm probably going to try and get a hang of this forum thing first for a bit... ^^;
Very nice to meet you!

Hmm, it really depends on what aspect of Finland you're refering to....
When it comes to the society it's, I think, more influenced by Sweden than Russia, but for example music is very much influenced by Russian music :DDD
It's a very difficult thing for me to answer shortly, since Finland was occupied by both. :D

Welcome to Revleft! Nice to see more leftists from Finland joining up, soon there are enough finnish speakers here to justify the creation of a language subforum. I'm personally finnish, but live in Stockholm.

I know what you are talking about when you describe the racism problem in Finland, which is indeed rampant -- as are other social problems such as homophobia. Due to these issues the left in Finland has, as I see it, an even tougher task ahead when struggling for an equal society, than for example in Sweden.

It's so good to see that people are realising that something needs to, and can be, done and are taking up the struggle. :)

Thank you thank you, and that would be a nice idea (although, I at least am completely satisfied with the nordisk forum, since Swedish/Norwegian are easy to understand).
Anyway very nice to meet you!

One of the worst things is that people keep repeating to everyone that they're not racists, they're not racists, they have nothing against foreigners....just as long as they stay away. And a lot of people believe this, I mean believe that you're not a racist if you want somalis to be in Somalia and not in Finland. Idiots.

I'm really glad that I found this place, really don't know any leftists here (in real life that is) and it's wonderful to see that one definitely isn't alone.

I've found that it's those people that feel the need to assure you that they are not racists, that usually are precisely that. It's like a law of nature; when someone begins a sentence by declaring that they 'aren't a racist', you can always expect the worst kind of bullshit to come out of their mouth next.

I know the feeling, I started reading this forum about 7 years ago and posting here two years after that, and in the beginning I wasn't organised in any way. Revleft is a great community and educational resource and simply a funny place. One just has to be careful to not get demoralised by the sectarian infighting that plagues the left and is well represented here.

Sooner or later it needs to be counterbalanced by the inspiring effect of real life activity. But, it's also part of the fun with Revleft.

Exactly, that's for me at least, a given, but for some odd reason, not for everyone. Never understood it. I mean, if someone says 'no offense, but', you usually take it as being offensive, so why not when someone says 'I'm not a racist, but'. Alright, easy answer, they're all racists and thus are not annoyed by that.

Oh the bickering, yes the bickering, already noticed that. Thankfully thus far there's always been someone on my side too, so not yet demoralised :D
I guess it's a thing with forums. People have the guts to fight on forums.

Hopefully sooner, eh? :D

Indeed. Over the years I've met quite a few people who I first learned to know here, and in 9 cases out of 10 they were totally different than their online personas -- much more friendly, polite and so. Personally I'm quite straightforward both here and in real life, so I found it weird to begin with.

Anyway, in short my advice to you is to get organised as soon as possible. Perhaps the other finns here (see the finnish regional group), who live in Finland, can give you some information about organisations in Finland. Personally I'm a member of the syndicalist trade union SAC in Stockholm, but am atm also considering joining a marxist (trotskyist) party -- but this is here in Sweden.

In any case, happy posting and see you on the forums. :)

In some cases, of course, that might just be with the way you can't hear someone's intonation in a written text. I tend to sound slightly less mean in real life, even if I'd say the exact same things xD

I really should, you're right. Haven't much gotten anything done in the last few weeks, but I should em, ottaa itseään niskasta?

Thank you again very much :)
