I wouldnt buy any che merchandise apart from books, doesnt matter what it is you will still be giving money to large corporations who will give the makers of the t-shirts minimum wage or in some dingy sweat shop.

Boycott Che merchandise, do you honestly think Che would want his face used a financial mission.

Che's daughter, Aleida Guevara, said that she doesn't care, and that she is in fact happy to see people wearing che shirts.
However she hates it when he is used to sell vodka and other crap.

At Havana airport in the duty free bit a couple of years ago they were selling Che watches. Unbelievably tacky and I couldn't bring myself to buy one then (it was probably a swatch). But I guess that during the 'special period' and in the face of the blockade we should do all we can to help the Cuban economy. I might draw the line at a Che action figure. I think I would prefer to contribute economically by drinking large amounts of Havana Club - but that's another thread.

I drink Havana Rum, it is fucking brillant and it is only £10 a bottle about 14 euros. well worth it.

Nope, Che merchandise is baaaaad, other than books. I have basicly no use for some kind of Che shrine in my room so Action figures, watches, or whatever is useless.

I would like to buy a Che action figure to put on a shelf or something. It would be real cool if they made a "Revolutionaries" action figure series with Che, Fidel, Lenin, ect. ect. It would teach kids about Communism and be nice colectibels for adults.

No it wouldnt! I could just imagine it now a commercial saying : "Buy your Communist action figures now! Be teh first kid on your block to own one of these cool collectibles!"

Che isnt some type of movie star or rock star or even some kind of cartoon character like the ninja turtles to be making toys out of! It would be digrating to his name to reduce him to a mere play thing!

As for teaching kids about communism...no! They wont know jack about Che or Lenin only that they used to play with them when they were younger. Che action figures <_<

I never meant to be a widly marketed and commercialized thing, it would just be cool. I mean it could come with phamplets on the revolution and stuff. Then the kids could reinact the revolution. I never said it in a way to degrade him to a "plaything" but for him to be rememberd by younger generations. You could set up scenes and play revolution. I would teach my kid who he was and what he stood for before I just got him a Che action figure or whatever.

"Revolution is profitable.
So the capitalists try to sell it.
The money mips take the best things our hearts and minds produce, turn them into consumer products with a price tag and sell them back to us as merchandise.
They take our symbols, drenched with blood from the streets, and make them chic...
Beware the psyuchedelic buisnessman who taks of love on his way to Chase Manhattan.... He has a big pile of cash and a short soul.
A hip capitalist is a pig capitalist. "
- Jerry Rubin, DO IT!

Sorry, I just finished that book and this debate reminded me of it.

a few years back, some kids were bringing lunch boxes to school with pictures of the simpsons and superman and stuff, so i wanted a che image on a lunch box for myself, but i didn't use a lunch box, so i drew che on my bag, it looked pretty cool. :)

I heard a reference talking of teh popular rapper Jay-Z wearing a Che T-shirt. I may be paranoid or just wierd, but consciously or not, capitalizing on Che's image does what the United States government could not: Kill him.

Just remember:

:che: Glorification :che: could :che: kill :che: him :che:

I´m a day care teacher, but I never thought of such toys.

There are socialistic organisations to tell children about communistic ideas.

One example is the Rote Peperoni (www.rotepeperoni.de)

Capitalistic firms would only make fun out of Che,Lenin,...whoever.

A picture,or even a figure of Che is nothing when you don´t know about his ideas.

For what should a capitalistic firm make Che fight for?More profit?

The idea of such a figure is maybe funny.Nothing more.

I dont see the point in buying t-shirts myself, all that is doing is giving money who are making a profit off him and his beliefs. But then again its not as though he is the only person who is being made a profit by the greedy companies so it is up to you if you want to feed the greedy corporate world your money.

I think Che himself might find those t-shirts kinda offensive. And im sure that he wouldnt appreciate corporations whoring his image in order to make money.

Che mechandise. Che action figures? <_< To me some crusades and memories are just too precious, to mercandise. Imagies of him, on t-shirts I think are great. If for no other reason, they can be conversation starters. But as we see, with too many imagies after awhile, people say 'who cares.' And then what started as one man's quest for change in this world, becomes just a fad.- But I would say I wish all these 'capitalist corporations' would get off this promotion for profit. Can't you just see the absurbity of it all, a marketing team set down and discuss 'Che inspired fleecewear'. If any imagies are manufactured, they should be done so, in Cuba. And any sales and profits should be returned to Cuba. That would be true justice, in an otherwise ignorant world.
