Triple A

I just joined this rev left and I realised several things i was not aware off.
Can you explain me why everyone seem to follow the dogma of marxism and soviet union?
I am a leftist and I am against the state opression of Mao and Stalin, why you support them?
I tought we supposed to help the workers and the people not make a revolution and slaughter millions of people and keep the others living miserably.
Help me understanding this.
btw i am an anarchist

Anarchists make up a great percentage of users. Maoists and Marxist-Leninists are not the only factions on the board, so not everyone follows the Soviet Union.

TripleA, I have considered that growing up in cold war era I may have been subjected to a great deal of anti-Soviet propaganda by the western media. Clearing away the debris of 40 years of 'education' by the education system and the media may be a good place to begin. Discovering that very little of what you thought you knew about the world is true can be a very enlightening experience.

By far the best thing to do is to immediately throw away all preconceptions you had about the left. That way you can learn all the different tendency's without having purely inaccurate information or straw man arguments standing in your way.
Also, labeling yourself is fairly useless. I've been on this site for years, and the more I learn the more I reject the traditional labels all the tendency's use.

Soviet and Chinese dissidents are the people who cry about freedom because their particular professions would generate a lot of wealth in a capitalist country.
None of the laborers were jumping over the Berlin wall...only the highly educated people who wanted to be in a capitalist run country to use the free education they received from the socialists for profit.

Even as an Anarchist myself most of it is propaganda, even though regardless of your belief you have to admit Stalin was a dictator who was responsible for deaths, even if they aren't as many as Capitalists would have you believe. But Marx is not related to the Soviet Union, since they never actually reached Communism. Just read some forums and more importantly read books about the tendency you are interested. I suggest Kropotkin and Marx to start.

Because Marx provided a rather deep analysis of capitalism's immanent laws and tendencies which we agree with, and because acceptance of Marx's critique of political economy and materialist conception of history does not (logically) entail support for the Soviet Union at any of it's stages of development.

most people on revleft do not support the ussr or consider it to have been socalist. at least half the members are not marxist either, all marxists are not all bad, some are vary close to anarchism

most people don't, just some vary loud idiots, and anarchists form the biggest single group.

I wouldn't know of any Anarchist that outright rejected Marx' analysis of capitalism.

If I recall correctly, Malatesta did, and in fact criticised Bakunin for taking on too much of Marx's social theory. Bookchin also did some rubbishy critique of Marx's social theory somewhere.

By "outright rejecting" I mean calling all of it bullshit. I'm aware that Anarchists usually are critical of Marx.
Oh, maybe some hardcore individualists reject him altogether.

But most socialists worldwide do support the USSR at some point, usually from a Trotskyist, anti-revisionist, or in general view. Anarchists do not make up half of the board. Probably around 40% or less from the last poll.
RevLeft is a poor representation of the left, because most of our members are from North America and Western Europe with a few Australians in the mix.

trotskyists and starlinist are not communist. anarchists are not the only people who don't consider the ussr socialist, so 40% anarchist + 11% or more none lenist marxists, none marxist socialists and leninist who consider the soviet union none socialist, i think we definatly have a majority on this board
