So, my current assignment for the Comparative Government class that I am taking, is to analyze two different Current News articles (within the United Kingdom). However, I know very little on the UK, so I was wondering if any comrades can help out by posting any news articles which they find interesting. From what I've read about Ed Miliband, he seems pretty chill (for a bourgeios politician), so I'll probably end up writing about him - of course, unless there is any other important leftist news events that I'm missing?

What gives you the impression that Ed Miliband is chill, out of interest? You're usually on the money politically so this suprises me a little.

You could do something about the Spending Review:

How recent should the news stories be? this week, this month, this year?

Well, I said, he is pretty chill "for a bourgeios politician"...

My reasons for this are:

1. Unlike most other Labour Party officials, he admitted that Labour's support for the Iraq War was wrong.

2. He looks as if he won't just roll over, and blindly support Israel (...not that his opinions on Israeli policy are "just" or "right", but it's a step forward...) : http://www.jta.org/news/article/2010/10/13/2741276/milibands-positions-on-israel-concern-uk-jews

3. (Him and) Labour's economic policies seem quantitatively better than the Conservative Party's and Liberal Democrat's

So, maybe I should rephrase my opinion towards Ed Miliband - I support him in the same way that I support Ralph Nader or Bernie Sanders - which is, that while I primarily disagree with most/a lot of their policies, I respect them for being quantitatively superior than the normal wrung of bourgeios politicians.

Within the year.

Well the biggest story for a long time has been the MP's expenses scandal which broke last year but carried on throughout this year with some MP's facing criminal charges.

You could do a leftist analysis of any of the policies of the new right-wing coalition government - for example, the decision to remove the cap on university fees, which has caused massive controversy within the Liberal Democrats, the junior coalition partner.

Couple of topics there - immigration and labour theory of value respectively. Interesting stuff, the articles come with some backing in the form of research, polls etc. Take a look.
