I respect him for releasing the pentagon papers and doing a lot of real work combating against harmful imperialist policies worldwide through his political career, but 1. he didn't see economic class as the fundamental structure of oppression and decision-making tyranny, and 2. Pursued the reformist route that never works out for the proletariat long-term, least of all in the US. He might have been a good president to have for workers' mobilization to grow under, but the reasons why he lost are the same reasons why people who assume his position will seldom, if ever, gain the left any real ground in core countries. I think he joined the libertarian party because of what Ron Paul was able to do with them and thought them more philosophically tolerable than the democrats in civil manners, with exception to the large pro-capitalist orientation.
