On the 30th of October the notorious racist hooligans from the English Defence League (EDL) are planning a demonstrative gathering on the Museumplein in Amsterdam.
They do this to express their support for Geert Wilders while he awaits the verdict in his prosecution for hate incitement en discrimination. They also want to use this event to launch an pan-european movement with new divisions formed in the Netherlands and France.
The EDL are an mixed collection of racists, neo-Nazi’s and hefty hooligans who in Great-Britain organise regular demonstration that most of the times end in brutal violence against random members of the public, cops and counter protestors.
Only last weekend 1500 cops in Leicester couldn’t prevent that boozed up and drugged out EDL members broke out of their demonstration and vandalised multiple shops, attempted to storm an mosque, attacked journalists en assaulted migrants.
At a previous solidarity demonstration with Wilders masked EDL members chanted repeatedly racist abuse.
Prominent figures in the EDL are several members of the fascist BNP party, lots of hooligans convicted for serious violence and the notorious Northern-Irish terrorist Johnny “Mad Dog” Adair.
Also within the recently launched Dutch branch, the “Dutch Defence League” you can find very controversial figures. A prominent role seems to be reserved for the extreme-rightwing professional activist Ben van der Kooi, an regular member on anything between Pim Fortuijn remembrances too all out neo-Nazi demonstrations who in 2006 only on a technicality got cleared of arson in an Rotterdam mosque.
Like Wilders the EDL/DDL offer no solution for the very real problems facing our society but only spread their poison of hate and intolerance.

Because of this, Antifa!-Amsterdam and AFA (AntiFascist Action)-Netherlands call out everybody to come to the Museumplein on the 30th of October in resistance against this racist scum.
They appeal to anyone fed up with the tsunami of hate, discrimination and intolerance that is engulfing the Netherlands at the moment. An appeal to anyone who no longer wants to see how people are oppressed and pitted against each other. They call out for everybody too, each in their own way but loud and clear, show that day that enough is more than enough.
Because like someone recently said at an information evening organised by AFA “If the EDL are an indication for what awaits us if Wilders gets his wished for paramilitary’s then broad but uncompromising resistance is an bitter necessity”.

update: the edl demo is banned by the mayor to the midle of nowhere in the western docklands after an good media campagne and grassroots organising by amsterdam afa.
its waiting now to see if they will accept but the mayor made it very clear that any EDL (or AFA for that matter) that demonstrators outside their designated area will be arrested (and in case of the edl "kicked back on the boat they came from", the mayors words)
AFA still puts out an alert too opose EDL actvity over the whole weekend but is faced with an emergency "restraining" order. An UAF like protest is allowed in the center of town at the old synagoge at the feet of the remembrance statue for the 1941 general strikers.
Ajax tifosi have vowed to give the EDl canal swimming lessons if they show up in town mob-handed.

Antifa!-Amsterdam and AntiFascistische Aktie-Nederland noted the remarks in the media today by mayor van der about the forced relocation of the for this Saturday planned demonstration by the fascist English Defence League and the emergency order he will be enforcing too prevent counter actions.

They see these kind of actions as an basic human right in witch they accept no state interference and there for never ask permission for. Because of the emergency order Antifa!-Amsterdam asks people too make informed smart decisions in their possible actions, they don’t want people who resist discrimination and exclusion too be unnesecary abused or arrested by the cops.

The EDL Demo will be held in the Generatorstraat, at the end of Metro line 50 near the Isolatorweg. This has been decided after discussion between EDL representatives and the police-mayor-justice dept. triangle.

The demo in the western docklands will be held from 14:00 till 17:00.

nope, i would say most are unpollitical, if they vote it would be just as easy for the populist ex-maoist SP as for Wilders. but if they vote wilders it out of protest against the establishment and because wilders said he would save pensions and social-healthcare.

I think a problem the EDL will continue to have is they are very arrogant about who they are, and what they are doing.

As someone who often browses their forums, there is often talk about how "every football fan up and down the country support them, we could get 'EDL' sang round football grounds", "we are the people who are going to fight in the holy war against Islam" etc. The problem for them using this rhetoric is it is that they simply do not have the support they seem to think they do.

Most football clubs in the UK have a left of centre working class base, with Old Labour being the main supported party- particularly up north. While the BNP do get a fair share of votes from football supporters, the reality is it is probably only around the 10% region, and the EDL are nowhere near convincing anyone they aren't racist pigs.

When they came to Newcastle for example, the majority of the opponents were communists of local Asian lads, but that is purely because we are more militant, the majority of people I spoke to after were very supportive of those of us out there. These are the people they will not win, the bulk of the population. When they go on talking about how 'any english firm who play ajax will give them a kicking' as a result of todays events they are on another planet; most people will not find out about it and most people wont care, and if they did, theyd be as sympathetic towards ajax ultras as towards edl thugs.

In fighting the EDL we need to be aware the reality of their members are actually pissed off at capitalism, they talk on their forums about the poverty etc but they falsely blame it on immigration. Thus, we should be very careful about merely labelling them 'nazis', because that only alienates them, and the vast majority of them aren't fascists. The people at the pop of the organisation however are nazis, and we need to show that to their members, and show them that these people will not help them at all in their struggles.

All I'm saying mossy, is that while we should be out in force against the edl, we would be better placed talking to some of them, and explaining why they should look to the left and not the right- because if we explain our ideas we are likely to win. The hardcore nazis however ought to be kicked until they can barely stand however, but a distinction must be made between the dissatisfied working class and the hardcore fascists.
