that certain revleft posters have serious mental issues?

i don't mean this in a necessarily nasty way or anything, in fact i think it should be kept in mind when debating certain extremely strange/obstinate posters.

some people are almost solely single-issue posters.

just the mention of dialectical materialism draws a certain poster to then post walls of text.

i really hope revleft is not an accurate representation of most leftists out there. if it is, we are all in deep shit.

You get a lot of silly discussions on Revleft, as well as a lot of stuff that you'd normally never even encounter in real life.

On the other hand, while Revleft has a lot of petty discussions and political intrigues (between admins, anyway ), in real-life activism you will also meet quite a few people who make you wonder what their issues might be.

James P. Cannon wrote about the left drawing in all kinds of somewhat..off... people in his History of American Trotskyism, so it's definitely nothing new. The honest truth is - do you really think most people are not like this? The internet has been a tremendous intensifier for all the strangeness in modern civilization.

I would, however, hope that this thread refrains from defaming posters. Mental issues are serious things, and shouldn't be used to attack people we may not like.

graymouser is right, most people are at least slightly wacky. The figures are that something like one in four people has a mental disorder of one kind or another.

I think that the wackiest people are probably those who decide what qualifies as a mental disorder. Although sometimes one feels that they know exactly what they're doing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oppositional_defiant_disorder).

I'm sure anyone who can stomach StormFront for more than a few minutes (I can't) would draw the same conclusion. I think it's more that people who are "off" in various ways tend to be drawn to radical politics and/or fringe movements in general, rather than the left in particular.

What exactly do you mean by "serious mental issues"?

Is the idea of normality defined by the ruling class? Or the DSMV-IV? Or what? And by the way, “the grey blur,” denigrating posters who disagree with you as having “serious mental issues” is just disgraceful.

Who said anything about them agreeing or disagreeing? It was just an observation.

Nope, it wasn’t. It was an insult and judgment call. The grey Blur asked if certain revleft posters had serious mental issues, then he felt compelled to add that it wasn’t meant “in a necessarily nasty way or anything” but “should be kept in mind when debating extremely strange and obstinate posters.” That’s an insult. He is saying that people who are (in his mind strange and obstinate) have mental issues. C’mon, that’s lame. I’ve never accused a person who disagrees with me as mentally insane.

but come on, don't be ridiculous. it's your own construal that i meant it in a disparaging way. i added the second part as a disclaimer that i specifically didn't want to victimise anyone.

Everyone in the world is as mad as a hatter. "Normality" is merely the most common form of madness.

Whatev. Your question was provocative for a reason and anyone who keeps lists in the first place should be examining their own mental state.

i never implied anything related to political belief (though that might explain some things...) as much as their style of posting/discussion/ability to rationalise. you're making your own inferences which are very dull and (as much as i dislike the misuse of this term) 'politically correct'...if you find a frank discussion of mental illness provocative then that's your own problem.

Well im an Autist so i am mentally ill.
Anyways we're a funny bunch and mentally ill, us RevLefters, but thats what makes us special.

And we've got a heart to believe in Global Communism so we're really better than alot of peoples and should be proud of ourself.

Perhaps we must conclude that it is The Grey Blur who has serious mental issues, albeit not of the DSM kind.

There are people on here who are mentally ill and sometimes that can come across in discussions about sensitive subjects, but I don't really like the tone of this thread and I don't think it's appropriate to post a thread like this where such users can read it.

Do you not think I was birthed from an Orca and came to run with wolves in the forests?

That's your problem, not mine

I agree.

Its like posting 'Do you sometimes get the feeling that certain revleft posters are homosexual?'.
