Don't think I have to introduce NOFX to you really, I guess everybody knows them. However here is their newest master piece from their album "War on Errorism":

NOFX - Franco Un-American
I never thought about the universe, it made me feel small
Never thought about the problems of this planet at all
Global warming, radio-active sites
Imperialistic wrongs and animal rights! No!

Why think all the bad things when life is so good?
Why help with an 'am' when there’s always a ‘could’
Let the whales worry about the poisons in the sea
Outside of California; it’s foreign policy

I don’t want changes, I don reactions
Your dilemmas are my distractions

That’s no way to go, Franco Un-American
No way to go, Franco Un-American
No way to go, Franco Un-American
No way to go, Franco, Franco Un-American

I never looked around, never second-guessed
Then I read some Howard Zinn now I’m always depressed
And now I can’t sleep from years of apathy
All because I read a little Noam Chomsky

I’m eating vegetation, ‘cause a fast food nation
I wear uncomfortable shoes ‘cause of globalisation
I’m watching Michael Moore expose the awful truth
I’m listening to Public Enemy and Reagan Youth

I see no world peace ‘cause of zealous armed forces
I eat no breath-mints ‘cause their from the de-hoofed horses
Now I can’t believe; what an absolute failure
The president’s laughing ‘cause we voted for Nader

That’s no way to go, Franco Un-American
No way to go, Franco Un-American
No way to go, Franco Un-American
Where can we go, Franco Un-American

I want to move north and be a Canadian
Or hang down low with the nice Australians
I don’t want to be another ‘I-don’t-care-ican
What are we gonna do Franco, Franco Un-American

High quality song, that is. It basically describes my life, but instead of reading Chomsky, I read the lyrics of "The Battle of L.A." by Rage Against the Machine...then I went to their website and looked at their reading list. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Ach, I don't like it that much :( the guitar sounds too pop-punk for me

'tis a shame, I normally love NoFX

Okay admittedly its growing on me after a few listens. But I still don't like it as much as I should. The guitar's sound too melodic for Nofx. They have this lil' melody line going on over the main riff that sounds simple plan-esque. If it wasn't for the lyrics and Fat Mike's lack of melody this would be a pop-punk song  to moi atleast :(

Less pop-punk?: :) try THIS (http://www.che-lives.com/mp3/nofx2.mp3) one!

NOFX: The Separation of Church & Skate

Lost in a sea of combat boots, flush the bouncers with wasted youth
When did punk rock become so safe, when did the scene become a joke
The kids who used to live for beer and speed now want their fries and coke
Cursing and flipping birds are not allowed, in fact let’s keep noise levels down

Must separate the church and skate

When don’t we put pad on the kids, helmets, head gear and mouth pieces
They we could pad the floor and walls, put cameras inside bathroom stalls
We make sure only nice bands play, and we could sing my country ’tis of thee sweet land of liberty

When did punk rock become so safe
I know it wasnt duane or fletcher, who put up the barricades
Like a skate in the heart, somehow we got driven apart

I want conflict I want dissent, I want the scene to represent
Our hatred of authority, our fight against complacency
Stop singing songs about girls and love, you killed the owl you freed the dove
Confrontation and politics replaced with harmonies and shticks
When did punk rock become so tame, these fucking bands all sound the same
We want our fights we want our thugs, we want our burns we want our drungs
Where is the violent apathy, these fucking records are rated g

You should see the clip. It rules.

How is the MP3 of the month actually been chosen?

I remember that song, I used to overplay it:D The lyrics are awesome. Except for the part which talks about wanting to move to Canada. That doesn't make sense to me. I can't tell the difference between America and Canada at all... except for America's lack of marijuana... Maybe he wants weed? we've been pretty much Americanized over here. Once Chretien resigns, even more so...
Anyways, I do like all else about this song. props on the pick :)

Damn, how about a new Che-Lives MP3? It's been three months.

(Canada is more liberal than America. Toronto legalized marijuana and gay marriages. Not to mention they aren't as down with imperialism as America.)

yeah, its nice to see that there are other voices against the way things are besides rage against the machine's, especially now that they are deceased. And yes they are deceased, though their decapitated body named audioslave is running around singing songs called "cochise." right....

Well, if you're going to put up something new, might I suggest something by Peter Tosh? He was certainly a master of militantism in his day and age, and that says a lot.

Seen? Seen.

wouldn't count on it, man.
I can only remember 3 or 4 MP3s of "the month", but they were all punk, ska, or hip-hop, I beleive.

We need to resurrect Radio Rebelde, though

Indeed we do....I've got a flagpole and a car battery on my christmas wish list...
anyone know how to operate a pirate radio station?

Rastafari

I'm reading up on it, man. More and more. There aren't any books written on it directly, though, so you sort of have to peice things together from real literature

And by the way, maybe you've been in the area between Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio, and have seen all those huge antennas? They're called the "Voice of America," and broadcast propaganda all the way to cuba and central america. Your tax dollars at work!!

I feel confident now.
I got in my car, pulled out the tape deck, and worked on it for 2 hours. The Tapes work perfectly fine now (they were running at 7 cm/second rather than 5.6 cm/s, which sucked), but I can't get AM. Oh well, its the conservatives Band anyway.

scratch that. It plays side one at normal speed, but if it turns to side two, I get a version of "The End" thats 3 minutes long. Interesting, but not good

Mr Mojo Risin
28th October 2003, 22:07
Well, so much for side B. You can always just pull the tape out and turn it over the old fashioned way. It is definitely interesting- I sometimes play an lp at 45 just for the fun of it....oh well.
