"They force [Sister Dianna] Ortiz, who entered the novitiate at the age of 17, to jerk them off and perform oral sex. They hurt her in other ways she won't describe. (The most chilling line in the book is in a different section, where Ortiz, casually explaining her fear of dogs, says, "Dogs were used in my torture in a way that was too horrible to share with anyone. Even now, I don't talk about that part of the torture.") And they put her in a pit of dying and dead people who've already been tortured -- including children. Most damaging of all, they position Ortiz's hands around a machete and force the machete, in her hands, into another torture victim, murdering the woman."

"I got pregnant as a result of the multiple gang
rapes by my torturers, and unable to carry within me what
they had engendered, what I could view only as a monster, the product of the men who had raped me, I turned to someone for assistance and I destroyed that life. Am I proud of this decision? No. But if I had to make the decision again, I believe I would again decide as I did eight years ago."---- Salon.com's review of her book The Blindfolds Eyes

For women, it was an especially violent experience. The commission reports that nearly every female prisoner was the victim of repeated rape. The perpetration of this crime took many forms, from military men raping women themselves to the use of foreign objects on victims. Numerous women (and men) report spiders or live rats being implanted into their orifices. One woman wrote, “I was raped and sexually assaulted with trained dogs and with live rats. They forced me to have sex with my father and brother who were also detained. I also had to listen to my father and brother being tortured.” Her experiences were mirrored by those of many other women who told their stories to the commission.

In an effort to document torture, a government-appointed truth commission gathered testimony from Chileans who had been held and tortured in prisons all over the country. Torture consisted of electric shocks to the victims’ genitals, immersion in feces-filled waters to simulate drowning, the rape of female prisoners by men, dogs, and rats. Fully 28,500 people came forward to recount the most physically, spiritually, and psychologically destructive torture, which has marked them for life.

Sick, just sick.

I knew that dogs had been used in Chile under Pinochet, along with broken wine and beer bottles, as a method of rape and torture, but I did not know that the same methods took place in Guatemala. Of course the fact that the same methods of torture and the widespread use of rape by dogs has occured in a number of Latin American countries tells us that the US, through the CIA and it's torture school, the 'School of the Americas' taught it's local henchmen and tyrants across Latin America in the same methods of brutality.

We only hear of the large massacres that took place in 1982-1983 under the dictatorship of General Rios Montt, and very little of the horrors that took place after. My heart goes out to Dianna Ortiz, it is a mircale that she coped in the very brave way that she has, hopefully one day she will have justice.

Seriously, how have more 9/11 incidents not occurred considering the amount of oppressed populations tortured to an absurd degree that appears almost perversely fictional?

no surprises. in Argentina they used to throw opponents of the military regime out of planes, alive. I remember reading one testimony where they played samba music and made the person dance with electric shocks to it before throwing her out.

cutting open a persons stomachw hile alive and then putting a rat in was also a known one.

I hate that this shit actually happens, but I love it when we find out about it. Any of my friends that were sympathetic but not radical instantly become vitalised with a new vigor to fight Capitalism as soon as I alert them to this sort of inhuman treachery. From this they go on to read more theory and become more long-term militants.

This makes me really despise the US.

And to think our sorry, sorry politicians have been involved in this, allowing those US planes to stop off here, being involved in the rendition of terror suspects.

Of course I must clarify that it was not US soldiers who personalyl did this, but Argentine soldiers. In the case of Chile, I'd imagine it was Chileans whod irectly did it. Though the CIA supported and trained them.

Great, you're incapable of the intellectual agility required to explain your support for inhumane, torturous practices, so you just hide behind a shitty little quote.

If you support doing such things, even to the worst Capitalists, then you are not better and can not express your supposed 'disgust' at their actions.

Remember what Mark Twain said comparing the Terror of the French Revolution with the Terror of the Monarchy which preceded it:

There were two "Reigns of Terror," if we would but remember it and consider it; the one wrought murder in hot passion, the other in heartless cold blood; the one lasted mere months, the other had lasted a thousand years; the one inflicted death upon ten thousand persons, the other upon a hundred millions; but our shudders are all for the "horrors" of the minor Terror, the momentary Terror, so to speak; whereas, what is the horror of swift death by the axe, compared with lifelong death from hunger, cold, insult, cruelty, and heart-break? What is swift death by lightning compared with death by slow fire at the stake? A city cemetery could contain the coffins filled by that brief Terror which we have all been so diligently taught to shiver at and mourn over; but all France could hardly contain the coffins filled by that older and real Terror -- that unspeakably bitter and awful Terror which none of us has been taught to see in its vastness or pity as it deserves

working to liberate them from Communism

Hey guys, at least those torturers were fighting for a good cause because apparently fighting communism requires dogs to rape nuns.

No but seriously this is fucked up beyond reason, when I heard the part where she was forced to have sex with her father and brother I just put my hand on my mouth and freaked the fuck out.

First order of revolutionary business finding these torturers
Second order shooting them, end of story.

Nobody said spreading democracy would be a dinner party. Sometimes you need to rape women with dogs, because if you don't, then the terrorists win. "Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists." And if you are against raping women with dogs - you are quite obviously a terrorist.

Yeh, I'm fairly certain you haven't read any of the memoirs written by survivors of Stalin's Gulags....

But anyways, here's a mass grave of about 9.000 Ukrainians being exhumed, and let's admit it, shit like this did happen in a Gulag.

Look, if it came down to it for the revolution, I would kill the pigs who are trying to suppress it. But by no means would I torture anyone especially doing so by rape. There is a difference between defeating your enemy swiftly and just sadistically fucking with them. Brutality should not be condoned or used, if it is how do you expect people to believe you are doing it for the good of everyone if you can live with yourself after committing such atrocities?

Far beyond the capitalist cause behind it, I think this kind of cruelty transcends any kind of leftist review. Culture and Ideology can be build up in the most horrible ways as to allow this... its humanity and its paradoxical possibilities.

Sherlock, I never said we revolutionaries ought to rape and torture. But we do need force and coercion--- the swift, speedy kind like the link of the Romanov family I posted above.

Of course I think revolutionary violence is necessary, I'm all for lining the reactionary fuckers up against the wall, like they did with the kulaks(the real ones) in Russia, the landlords in China, and Batista's henchmen in Cuba.

But torture for its own sake, like here, has nothing to do with justice and is sheer sadism. It has no place in a revolution. If it does, its a revolution that I want nothing to do with.
