Salò was unbanned in Australia just last month and been made avaliable on DVD.
Who here has seen it? Is it worth watching? Any opinions, reviews, reflections?

It's pretty good. As a piece of shock cinema it succeeds fairly well; as any kind of analysis or commentary on fascism, however, it's basically worthless. Other than maybe the most shallow statement that fascism is grotesque. Pasolini was an interesting individual, though.

Gotta agree with ES on this one. I'd also add that if you're looking for a pretty decent commentary on fascism, Bernardo Bertolucci's Il Conformista (English title The Conformist, 1970) is far better.

...Pasolini was an interesting individual, though.
He was much more than that. He was a great 20th century poet, a Marxist who understood the class relations of post war Italy, a sexual liberationist, an accomplished playwright and a fairly good filmmaker. In all probability Pasolini was murdered by his neo-fascist enemies.

And his best film (imo) was a faithful adaptation of the Book of Matthew from the Bible.
