Doug Singsen is a student at the City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate Center and an activist in the struggle against budget cuts and tuition increases.
Since last spring's March 4 day of action, the struggle against cuts in New York has been harassed by a group of students calling themselves "insurrectionists" and organized around the Take the City blog. The "insurrectionists" physically intimidated and abused protesters at Hunter College on March 4 (http://socialistworker.org/2010/03/09/a-movement-that-unites-us). Now, one of these students, Ben Stable, hijacked a Web site that other activists were using to build for October 7 protests against education cuts. Doug responded to this breach of movement democracy with the following open letter.

Oy, really? It's not like there's a huge ruling class attack going on at the moment - I guess the best way for radicals to spend our time is by sabotaging other activists and protests.

Speaking of sabotage, didn't the ISO at CUNY call the cops on occupiers last year?

Speaking of sabotage, didn't the ISO at CUNY call the cops on occupiers last year?Nope, did you?

Did you read the link to the article above? That was the claim made by people who basically discredited themselves to the rest of the left and have repeatedly tried to sabotage other groups and the student coalition; but unlike some people the ISO stands in solidarity with left groups who are subject to state repression even when we don't agree with their politics - like the FBI spying on the Freedom Road Socialist Organization.

I dunno I think I read that in fttp like, 5 months ago. And the iso didn't feel the need to defend themselves from it til now? I don't doubt that your organization "stands in solidarity" with frso, but that doesn't mean it also doesnt (or individuals in it don't) get real shady when it starts to loose control of movements that it once dominated.

I dunno I think I read that in fttp like, 5 months ago. And the iso didn't feel the need to defend themselves from it til now?You still haven't read the link have you? This article is not about the "ISO defending itself" - it's about some former-radicals hacking a website because they're mad that no one listens to them. Besides, from what I hear, all this baseless accusation was addressed by various activists and ISO members in NY back at the time.

but that doesn't mean it also doesnt (or individuals in it don't) get real shady when it starts to loose control of movements that it once dominated. It also dosen't mean the Pope doesn't shit popcorn.

Getting shady when you can't control a movement? You mean like hack and sabotage the website of other people in the movement and try and discredit them with fake website statements and so on? Or maybe when the rest of the movement rejects some elitist bullshit tactics of the "insurrectionist vanguard", they try and save face by making unfounded accusations about groups calling the cops on other activists?

No, the ISO doesn't do any of that. If by some chance an individual did something like that, they would be kicked out if it was found out.

The original source of this alleged incident was from a false confession by an ISO members hacked facebook account. It is entirely baseless.

Hmm I should probably have reread the fttp article and this one before posting, maybe I will when I get home. So I apologize cause I probably have jumped the gun a little bit.

I've heard that New York is so big, that no matter how crazy you are you can find somebody who agrees with you.
Seriously though, student politics is a dead end. This whole business is like children arguing over a game of make believe. What a waste of time.

Well this is a bit pathetic. The usual.
