I know this has probably been asked of before, and normally I would have gone to the Red Encyclopedia but it's gone for some reason, but can you guys help me understand the fundamental differences between the major communist idealogies? They all believe the end result of their actions will be socialism, but there are:

Marxist
Leninist/Bolshevik
Maoist
Stalinist
Trotskyite

Posting links to previous discussions and other websites is welcome. Making a sticky for this subject is also recommended.

I downloaded the entire Red Encyclopedia before it went offline and I'm willing to send it to whoever wants it.

All of those ideologies are basically the same. Or just add ons of each other. Leninism is Marxism with his 'Democratic Centralism' mixed in. Trotskyism is just Marxism-Leninism with his 'Permenant Revolution' in it and Stalinism is Marxism-Leninism with 'Socialism In One Country'. Maoism is Stalinism suited to the third world and peasent countries.

And they all seem to be degenerations of each other. Maoism probubly being the WORST possible form of Marxism. Of course that's only an opinion.

Other forms of socialism include:

-Libertarian Socialism. Also called anarchism. See http://www.anarchistfaq.org for a long description
-Reformist Socialism. Also called democratic socialism or electoral socialism. Implement socialism by winning elections and gradually changing capitalism into socialism. Scandinavia is usually as an example of this form of "socialism." In practice it just ends up modifying capitalism, not abolishing it. An early form of reformist socialism was called revisionist marxism, but most contemporary reformists do not consider themselves marxists.
-Market Socialism. All companies would be controlled by the workers but they would sell their products in the market. Market Socialists oppose both capitalism & central planning.
-Titoism. This is the Leninist version of Market Socialism. See Yugoslavia for an example.
-Blanquism. A secret conspiracy of socialists would seize power in a coup and then implement a Communist dictatorship. This form is pretty much dead.
-Council Communism. This is very close to Libertarian Socialism. Council Communists focus on workers councils and believe in a revolution brought about by the spontaneous rebellion of workers.
-Utopian Socialism. This is a deragatory term for the very first socialists in the early 19th century. They drew up various utopian scemes, some of which were quite wierd (in one scheme the transition to Socialism would cause all the lakes to turn into Lemonade). Most believed they could achieve socialism just by convincing rich people that it was a good idea - a very niave thought that was later abandoned by virtually all other socialists.
-Fabianism. Intellectuals should rule society and scientifically build a better society gradually. Workers are to obey the intellectuals.
-Parecon. The economy would be run by directly democratic worker & consumers councils. See http://www.parecon.org

The reason I'm asking is because I am doing research classification paper on the branches of socialism in my Comp I class and I needed some background information. Thank you for the links, they have helped me a lot to compile the ton of information on this subject. My first essay will be on communism/marxism and I might post it up here when I'm done.

Son of Rage, it would be of great assistence if you could email me the encyclopedia. My email address is [email protected]
