No, he meant that religious beliefs offer solace to those who are socially excluded and exploited. As such, it is the opium, which functions in two ways:

1) offers solace, and the consequence of this is the transfer of the realization of abstract terms such as "justice" to the other world; this world is the "valley of tears" in which man can only toil and pray

2) it masks real social relations by attributing their origin to the omnipotent God; as such, it partakes in the production of false consciousness (a prime example of false consciousness is the belief that rigid social hierarchy is a reflection of divine hierarchy - the so called chain of being which permeated medieval theology, as well as a good part of it after 1492).

I don't have a faith in a transcendent being which is the cause of all things. Such beings do not exist.

Is there really a need for this thread?
