View Full Version : shameful things you do to get rep

oh c'mon, all of us have had that little gellful smile when we see that our explicitly sectarian post has began a forum wide circle jerk and all you can do is admire the amount of thank-you's your one liner has received.
So
I often try to be the first to reply to a thread in the learning section with a witty short reply, a quick cash in really. anything to long will mean only those actually serious about the subject at hand will read it, and the serious sorts are gonna be critical
examples: AK cashing in (http://www.revleft.com/vb/lenin-monsteri-t142624/index.html)
(http://www.revleft.com/vb/lenin-monsteri-t142624/index.html)Muzk cashing in (http://www.revleft.com/vb/stalin-t142480/index.html)
lots of cashing in here (http://www.revleft.com/vb/merged-anarchism-and-t141946/index.html)
Omnia cashing in (http://www.revleft.com/vb/religion-after-revolution-t141811/index.html)
A not so shameful but equally cashy way to get rep would be posting an inspiring news story (http://www.revleft.com/vb/colombia-rebel-groups-t124892/index.html)
share!

I have to admit, that post did not deserve all that rep.
I also once got like 30 rep points for a stupid one liner about Bob Avakian. Bob Avakian topics are rep goldmines, especially if you're armed with a snide comment or two.

Circle jerks are the closest the left is ever going to get to a united front.
I also think "Circle Jerk" is a highly patriarchal term and should be changed to something more gender neutral like a masturbation oval.

Something along the lines of "Stalin was an authoritarian, anti-democracy, class-collaborationist dickhead" usually does the trick, however, if I make a silly post I feel compelled to follow it up with "But in all seriousness..." so it doesn't look like I'm just trollin'.

I don't really explore many parts of this forum (I just occasionally hang out in Philosophy), but here's my theory:
1.) Post a Left catch-phrase in response to someone not entirely clued in on Left speak, don't elaborate more than a paragraph.
2.) Post sectarian; again, nothing more than a couple sentences.
3.) Call out an obviously f-ed up post with a snarky one-liner.
4.) Call out people's bs in general.
5.) You can post something long, but it's dangerous. Most people are "tl;dr," but perhaps if you really get into it with an f-ed up post and elaborate remorselessly on how f-ed up it is, you can get those delicious thank you morsels.
Here's how not to get lotsa rep:
1.) Post anything about the "theoretical aporias of the modern Left."
2.) Engage in a mature, substantive discussion with a friendly interlocutor.
3.) Challenge people's common sense. This includes Left common sense.
If you do the latter, pretty soon you'll be like me, with rep disabled to hide your shame. Once you disable rep though you do realize the joys of not having a reputation, which includes the following benefits: feds don't have you on their revleft internet monitoring list, you are invisible, a wraith, no one notices when you pee-pee yourself in a dark wet corner
Coming soon: "the mysteries of neg rep: get some!"

Actually, this is a kind of newb question, but how do you neg rep someone, how does it work? (does it really lower their reputation? I thought only mods could do that...) It seems like a bad idea if people get into personal petty beefs.

1. Don't say newb, or noob, or n00b. The internet is bad enough as it is without you spreading the depravity.
2. The scales at the top of each post. click on it and choose 'disapprove' and leave a mean message that makes them cry.
