Used to do it when i was around 12-14, i managed to do an ollie over two boards stapled on each other, wich im still very proud of. I don t think that i will be able to keep the balance today, havnt stand on one for years now.

I used to be able to skate competently enough to travel to my friends' houses on a skateboard and could do a basic ollie, but I think if I tried to do it now I'd break something.

I used to though my teenage years, and some beyond. Now I'm old and bitter on the new generation of skaters here who got the sweet skate-park I spent part of my childhood campaigning for.
Just use a wax candle and don't waste money on special skate wax.

well, it wasn't my money but i'll keep it in mind :)
i'm currently unemployed like my friends - though i have the distinction of being the last in line to lose my job - so a great deal of our time is spent skating. we only have two boards and there are three of us so i'm trying to scrounge up enough money to build my own and give them my current board(i only ask for the deck back to hang up when its run its course). so is the life of a 20-something skate rat.

I feel with you with the unemployed situation as I've been there as well, you got all the time in the world but no money to do much with that time. Add inn that doing something fun gives you a bad conscience, since you should have spent that time doing something productive.
I got plenty of boards, but no time to use them, it's doesn't matter that much though since the skating season is over for this year now.
But the surfing season starts now, it's unfortunately that the waves are only decent here during the winter.

there's a skate park downtown we usually go to, but i prefer the one in my neighborhood. it's all street, whereas the opposite is true for the other local park
board: mystery
trucks: thunder
wheels: bones stf
bearings: bones red

I've been skating for like 10 years. Just got back from the skatepark a few hours ago, actually. Almost learned fs tail fs flips.
Why the fuck would you buy skate wax from a skateshop when you can just go to your local grocery store and get some cheap ass gulf wax?
Also, do you know the secret to making any ledge skateable instantly? I will tell you. You will need: a rub brick (http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=rub+brick&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&cid=9999802532891844404&ei=z8u_TMbCMY-O2QToxNigBA&sa=title&ved=0CAcQ8wIwADgA#p), spray varnish and some wax.
1. Rub the shit out of the edge of the ledge, both the top and the side, with the rub brick. This smooths out the surface to a sufficient extent.
2. Spray on the varnish. Spray on a lot. Make that shit drip. This will be absorbed into the voids in the ledge, giving you a nice, smooth finish.
3. Wait about a half hour (ideally 24-48 hours for the varnish to set, but who the fuck wants to do that?).
4. Wax and enjoy.
Obviously you don't want to get caught doing this because it's probably considered pretty serious vandalism but we've gotten a ton of seemingly unskateable spots super smooth and glorious using this method.
i'm currently unemployed like my friends - though i have the distinction of being the last in line to lose my job - so a great deal of our time is spent skating. we only have two boards and there are three of us so i'm trying to scrounge up enough money to build my own and give them my current board(i only ask for the deck back to hang up when its run its course). so is the life of a 20-something skate rat.Purchase decks from eBay. Don't bother wasting your money on brand names if you don't have that kind of dough. Buy only the black decks. Common brands are TMR and Flying Moose, I believe. You can get these on ebay for like 6 for $60 (http://cgi.ebay.com/5-SKATEBOARD-BLANK-DECKS-7-5-BLANKS-DECK-GRIP-/190458704493?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c5839326d) . I can only vouch for the black ones, which I have been buying for years, so the others might be shit and you buy at your own risk.
I haven't bought a brand name deck in years. I stick to either these or, if I need one in a hurry, shop boards.
Trucks, wheels and bearings you should almost never have to buy.
I'd post some photos/videos but that would violate the security policy of the board.
I did just get Stay Gold, which I was pretty disappointed with. Most of the video wasn't memorable at all. Heath's secret part was just reused footage to a song that doesn't fit him at all. I enjoyed Leo and Jerry's parts, and absolutely love Reynolds' part.
BTW, I grew up in the early 00's, so most of the vids/skating that I enjoy comes from that era: i.e. Cairo Foster, Brian Wenning, Rob Pluhowski, etc... Most vids nowadays and ams/pros are just boring to me. Luan Oliviera or whatever the fuck his name is is just boring for me to watch. It's just too "tech" for me to really enjoy. Maybe it's just because I can't really relate to it at all because I can't conceive of most of that shit (Shane Oneill sw flip bs tail bigflip out wtfff).

I went skateboarding for the first time today, learned how to to go without stopping, turn sort of, and stop sort of. Does anyone know good videos for learning this stuff, because all I've found so far was meh videos where they're like "and this is how you do this" *shows it really fast, once* and long walls of text that are kind of hard to understand without a visual aid.
Also I'm 20.
