The city that hosted the 1909 meeting of the First Internationale (which neither Marx nor Engels were allowed to attend), is home to huge demonstrations against police brutality in the past week. After police attacked around 20,000 demonstrators Thursday, who were protesting against the plans to demolish parts of the city's central public square--the Schlossgarten---injuring hundreds and arresting more, hundreds of thousands showed up to protest the police reaction, the most protesters the city has ever seen.

The plans to build are still on order--people have been sleeping under trees in shifts, in order to keep the trees-many of which are hundreds of years old-from being cut down in order to make room for the underground hub as part of a $10 billion plan to upgrade the regional, national & international transit system.

Pretty undemocratic of the police, & of the govenment--Merkel's party has suffered tremendously in pools taken subsequently. Children, families, mothers & fathers were among those attacked with tear gas & water cannons--the German state cares nothing for the opinion of its people. Merkel has sold out her own citizenry. This is a sad day.

The state has never cared for the people this is nothing new. But now the people are fighting back. 100,000 demonstrators wow, I mean the 17,000 that they fielded first was impressive, but 100,000 is something truly rare. People united, defending their city from the barbarisms of capitalism and the police.

The city that hosted the 1909 meeting of the First Internationale (which neither Marx nor Engels were allowed to attend)
1) Wrong year. It was 1907. I know that was a minor correction, but
2) It was not the First Internationale. It was the Second. Still, a minor correction, but...
3) They couldn't attend, because both were dead. What do you mean they weren't allowed to attend? Dead people were banned? Bummer.

Sorry for being a dick, but I thought it was weird to have so many mistakes in one statement!

On topic: that's an amazing showing of strength :thumbup1:

Sorry man, I guess it's me with egg on my face, this time--I don't know where I got off on that info--probably the combination of rugs, lack of sleep & a general disdain for facts & figures contributed--I've been getting sloppy.

Anyway, NO terminus->"through:" rail conversion requires this level of destruction. I lived in Stuttgart for most of my childhood--I know there is plenty of room outside of town, towards the Flughafen (airport), where this "much-needed upgrade" could be built--if anyone's being dicks, it's the German rail industry..
