Here it is
http://www.campaignforliberty.com/article.php?view=1127
1. Government provided retirement pay to senior citizens (i.e., Social Security).
2. Government provided health care (i.e., Medicare and Medicaid).
3. Government-provided, mandatory education to people’s children (i.e., public schooling).
4. Government-provided unemployment compensation.
5. Government-provided welfare payments.
6. Government central planning of monetary affairs (i.e., a Federal Reserve).
7. Government management of the economy.
8. Government-issued licenses for occupations and professions.
9. Government central planning over immigration affairs.
10. Government control over trade.
11. Government equalization of wealth among the citizenry.
12. Government-mandated wage rates.
13. Government control over prices.
14. Government-provided subsidies

I face palmed when I read this. By this guy standards who isn't a socialist?

I wish a lot of that was true. Also, big LOL at the federal reserve part. It's amazing how so many like to state that the Federal Reserve is privately owned, but then claim it's part of the "socialist conspiracy".

socialism is workers self managment, nothing more or less, couldn't be simpler (barring the socialist phase in leninism).

No Socialism is me having to get a license to drive a car:mad:

Driver's license=:hammersickle:

On a serious note I love it when right wingers get all smug when you ask them what communism or socialism is. It's usually a rant about Government doing anything the private sector could do is socialism.

I really enjoy asking whats socialism in particular is, it makes me feel quite intelligent.

Good Point the right wingers complain about the Federal Reseve being bad and that free markets are the way to go. Well as you said the Federal Reserve is private so it is the fee market!

The thing that scares me about engaging with right wingers in the States these days, or anyone infected with the right libertarian, objectivist, philosophical outlook is that they see things and interpret things in ways that defy reality. They will look at a film that may be anti-corporate or anti-capitalist and say it's about "freedom" and "anti-state" liberty.

I got into an argument with an objectivist about how the movie Moon with Sam Rockwell, was an anti-corporate movie but he was insisting that it was an anti-statist, anti-socialist movie and that the evil private corporation represented the evil statist ideology of socialism!

He has an entire school of philosophy behind him that said that it didn't matter what the intention of the filmmaker was. His message was irrelevant. What mattered was what he interpreted himself from the movie! And what he interpreted from the movie was so far removed from the initial message that it was creepy for me to talk to this guy.

Right Libertarians and Conservatives do the same thing with everything from politics to movies to literature. They see socialism even when it is not there.

Obama can he is not a socialist all he wants, they will not care.

Well it's not really privately owned. It's just so independent that it might as well be privately owned.

These idiot right wingers do not even understand how their own government works.

And on top of that their logic is all twisted if they believe the FED is totally privately owned. That means that the problem is privatization and the solution is nationalization (or in the real sense total control over the FED).

Evidence Reagan was a socialist:

Built up military (i.e. bigger government)

Authorized FEMA to put civilians in camps - big government

Feel free to add.

George Walker Bush (blessed be his name) was a TRUE American, unlike that fraud Barack Hussein Obama who is trying to bring us European Socialism!11! It's happening just like that one page I read in that Ayn Rand the socialists are taking over!

To be fair, the far right wingers are not alone. My communist professor, for instance, thinks that Obama is a closet socialist (who, incidentally, also wants to end America's war in Iraq and Afghanistan). No kidding.

Side note: among the wackier posts I've read here, I haven't come across anyone who shares this faith with my professor yet. Any chance somebody here believes this too?

No change anyone in here harbors illusions about Obama being a closet socialist.

Where do people get this idea from? Rightist dream it up but I wonder where leftists/liberals get it?

3. Escalated the drug war after Carter. (i.e. more "socialist" spending for the DEA and law enforcement agencies.)

As far as Obama being a socialist, yeah, he is.

Here he is, toasting the fundamental transformation of America:

When I asked, he listed a couple of hardly-Keynesian policies Obama supposedly supports. They were so insignificant that I don't remember a single one of them

Wow. Some mild reforms that even a moderate Republican would enact.

The credibility of many leftists has gone sour after the Obama campaign.

I still do not see the obsession with this man? Is it that he comes off as "articulate" and handsome? Typical shit liberals salivate at?
