So yeah... McDonald's, the place that supposedly has more customers per day than the population of several European countries just made another shit move to the public. Worst off, a lot of people are stuck at Mc Donalds as a last resort because they can't find any other work... and now the burden left by the financial disaster is only going to get worse for these people :(

Hopefully you didn't jinx yourself with that comment :p But seriously... health care costs are damn high... and things seem to be only getting worse... :(

Good thing I work at Target

Then you work for a company that backs a homophobic governor

Mcdonalds cannot "warn" a federal body. If Mcdonalds Australia tried that here they would not be met with success. I don't know how they get away with this.

Private corporations cannot warn or caution federal institutions. They are not the Law.

About their health insurance policies. That will be up to strong management to ensure that only weak dumb workers can be employed that are not a judicial threat by way of compensation.

These moves they make are not without ONUS.

Yeah, because the workers should take responsibility for what the company does

What we need is a general strike in the United States.

Ummm when did I blame the workers? I just said that he said "good thing" when its still not good. Don't take things out of context.

The worst part of this is that its spreading to other corporations. These corporations have basically taken these workers hostage and are using them as leverage against the government. Mari3L we need that strike right now. Bring down the capitalist monolith. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From what I got, McDonald's is basically gonna cut the remaining health plan it gives its workers unless the government changes present health care laws.

Well this just goes to show that in the United States corporations have pretty much equal power compared to the state.

Well they as a whole control the state, but yes there are a few corporations that alone can go head to head against the American state. So much for democracy.

We Americans should just be honest with ourselves and admit that by de facto this state is ran by McDonalds and Wal-Mart, I shall call it a "Name-brand Dictatorship".

I used to work at a 'high volume' mcdonalds store. it sucked ass but my fellow workers made it tolerable. i don't think any of us, sans the managers, even bothered with their healthcare options. still, it's not fair.

In decadent capitalism, there is no distinction between the corporation or the state. They're the same thing, with the same interests.

Actually, yes, they do. And being from Australia, you should damn well know better.
I say that because I assume you were around during the proposed Super Profits Mining Tax, which was hacked to pieces by the Miners Council of Australia, with their main threat being "if this bill goes through, all of us will suffer". Meaning, the tax will discourage companies from investing in the mining of Australian resources, as well as existing companies moving their business somewhere else, and Australia will lose (one of it's) primary forms of national income: the mining of natural resources.

Subsequently, the government ousted the leader who was spear heading it's proposal (Rudd) and the tax was significantly watered down, and then (if I recall correctly) abandoned.

So, yes, actually, they do have a huge sway.
By and large, the two walk hand in hand, but if on the odd occasion they come into conflict, well, you know the expression: he who holds the gold rules.

Since they're already organizing fast food chains (jimmy johns, starbucks), I'd like to see the IWW start a McDonalds campaign.

It is true, there is huge potential, and an objective necessity to unionize workers in the fast food industry, which is infamous for its level of exploitation. Socialist Alternative did a publication about organizing the fastfood industry called "Manifesto of the Fast Food Worker" that came out of a campaign trying to unionize Pizza Hut in Washington. It is available here online. (http://www.socialistalternative.org/publications/fastfood/)

lmao I didnt know fast food workers even had health insurance in the first place  I used to work at a high-volume Jack in the Box and we didnt have shit! Im guessing McDonalds employees only have benefits solely because it mantains the company's positive image.
