The media is even reporting on it... this began as a call to strike on the web, and has become a massive show of solidarity.

It is about time, hopefully they won't just settle for some bullshit "reforms". They need to change it all the way. Thanks for the update though and the videos.

Is there anyplace that is listing all the cities where actions took place, and estimating the numbers of people who took part? Becuase I've been looking since yesterday, and can't find that information.

Regardless, this doesn't seem to be too portentious. It was a one-day action that even in Spain didn't seem to be moving beyond union control.

You left-coms are professional pessimists. So much for always supporting the workers- except when you don't.

for a general strike to happen here in the U.S.A, 1-there has to be nice weather,2-has to take place on the weekday,3-no baseball/football games on TV and 4-can not interfere with dancing with the stars or American idol.

As was stated above, this isn't a 'success' - what was achieved? We have seen in Greece and more recently in France that the government is capable of ignoring these general strikes. It will be a success when workers start taking offensive actions, moving beyond merely reformist slogans. If you confuse justified pessismism with being anti-strike you're an imbecile. Pessimism of the intellect, optimism of the will.

I'm sure it felt good to hit the streets along side so many people but I don't believe it did anything.

They could have stayed home with family and accomplished as much.

If it had been a bit more militant and if this type of event occured more frequently with more intensity people would be getting killed because they'd actually be a threat. It's at that point where the working class needs to decided 'do we back down because we're being killed- or do we fight back towards our goal by any means neccessary?'

You don't play party politics and embrace the enemy system during an insurrection. That is fucking bullshit.

You don't let an enemy lay your options out for you- we're not babies tempertantruming for a chocolate bar-

With that said- I'm happy for everyone that marched.

The problem is that they are only one day, which doesn't hurt capital at all. A one day walk-out isn't a general strike.

I think it was a success in that it built a sense of solidarity among those who participated, which means they'll be looking to each other and us when they decide to unfuck their world once and for all. But I'm not sure what exactly we achieved here or even learned from this whole experience.

ILWU workers volunteered a days wages on June 20th at the port of oakland, and some east coast ILWU members were on a 2 day wildcat strike recently.
