I broke my left arm twice and my right once.
I had a grown-in nail once.
Nothing serious apart from that, just bleedings, scratches, pressures, everyday stuff ;D

broke my left arm when i was 7.
broke my pinky finger twice in the same week when i was 9 (i thought playing basketball with a broken finger would be fine...)
got a pole through my leg so i could see my bones and stuff, that was sort of disgusting.
and i also drove into a wall with a go kart, and got 9 stitches right above my eye.
hasn't really affected me though

I broke my left arm 2 years ago, and I can still see the un-natural curve in the arm.
When I was three I sliced my right arm with a broken dinner plate, and I still have the scar, about 6 in. long.
No particularly recent ones

the worst was breaking my leg in a drunken back alley fight. i shattered the bone (spectacularly painful, i almost vomited from pain) and had to have all the pieces bolted together, so i now have a metal plate and 4 bolts in my leg for the rest of my life.

You know, I'm learning a bunch of stress-relief techniques in class. You should try, based on my analysis, either a spa treatment, self-hypnosis, Poladis, Yoga, or a combinaion. It's better if it's a cheaper method, less financial stress and that allows for it to be continuously used without interruption from the moneys.
I perform self-hypnosis a lot, great stuff :thumbup1:

1) Busted my melon in a car wreck which caused me to have nine staples and a concussion and all sorts of soft tissue damage in my back and neck. IQ dropped from 140 to 60, short term memory loss, impulse control issues, mood swings, insomnia, depression for about 2-3 years. I'm on the mend from that now, though. All my cognitive functioning is back to normal, but for a while it was hell. All that's left is a big fuckin' scar on top of my head.
2) In a separate car wreck, I rolled a truck onto my left arm several times. Had some serious road rash, but the worst was the ulnar nerve injury. Basically, I rang the holy living shit out of my funny bone. Couldn't move my left hand for weeks, couldn't feel anything at all for months, and still have a little sensation loss in my pinkie finger on that hand. How I didn't break anything is a mystery to you and I both.
3) Caught the middle finger on my left hand in an electric hedge trimmer. Wrapped two others on my right hand around a butcher's knife I didn't know was in the bottom of a sink full of soapy water at work once. Still have scar tissue in all three.
4) Tore two ligaments in the left knee playing football (Americans read: soccer). Still hurts if I stand in one spot for too long or if it gets too cold.
5) Sprained one of those big tendons in the back of my right knee doing the same thing. Doesn't bother me anymore, though.
6) Tripped on a cable and broke my nose on the edge of a water bed that didn't have any padding on the wooden frame. Still a little crooked.
7) People keep joking about ingrown nails, but I kept getting them so badly in both my big toes I had to have outpatient surgery to get them permanently fixed.
8) Dunno if a congenital heart defect counts, but I've had failed surgery on that twice. Still get tachycardia from time to time from it.
9) Have had boxer's breaks in both my hands, two three times on the right one alone, from punching people and things....

1. I broke my arm, and got some scratches on my forehead after a friend and I were driving around drunk in Mexico, and hit a big ass deer that came jumping right in front of us at night. (Where we were, it was desert for miles around between one town and another, and the roads are all dirt.)
2. I sprained my ankle once riding a bike when I tried saving myself, but obviously didn't.
That's about it, I'm pretty well off when it comes to injuries.

Hahaha Yeah, when I saw this thread I was think, "Oh, wait till they get a load of this shit."
Wow, I can't believe how many serious accidents you've had
Glad you recovered from them all.
Yeah, you know it's funny. I know I'm somehow really accident prone, but it still surprised me once I had collected them all into that post. Funnier still is that I didn't even post all the accidents I've ever had, just the highlights. A couple more examples...
1) I was pretty athletic as a youngster. When I was 12, I was at basketball practice and nearly split my upper lip in half. We were playing a half court scrimmage, and I was the point guard on one of the two teams. One of the other guards passed the ball back to me, but it was an errant throw and went over my head. I turned around and gave chase, at the end of which I dove for the ball and went sliding across the floor on my chest in an effort to keep it from going out of bounds. The opposing team's point guard leaped over the top of me in an effort to get there first, and as he did he kneed me in the back of my head causing my face to smash into the hardwood floor. Never even got stitches for that one even though I probably should've. You can't see it, but there's a wad of scar tissue in my lip where my tooth sliced through it.
2) In a bizarrely similar accident when I was 15, I got what was probably a mild concussion at soccer practice. We were playing small side practice matches when the ball went rolling loose for the touch line. I sprinted toward it and did what's called a hook slide to try to keep it in play. One of the opposing players was giving chase and apparently didn't expect me to go to ground thus stopping so quickly... He tried to leap over me, and again I was kneed in the back of the head. I quite literally "saw stars" (yes, I hallucinated a bit) and nearly vomited on the pitch. Didn't go to a doctor for that one either...
Anyway, thanks for the sympathy.

No herniated discs... Like I said, it was soft tissue damage which meant muscular and connective tissue. I did physical therapy for that one, which included stretching, orbital bike, alternating hot and cold compresses, and some light weight lifting. My therapists also did this shit called biofeedback, which meant they attached small electrodes to the affected areas and sent mild electrical currents to them in order to stimulate tissue growth (thereby speeding the healing process). I also went in for some accupressure massage which, while not exactly healing, did go a long, long way toward alleviating the pain I was in.
As for the head injury, well, there's nothing that can really be done about that. According to my doctors, and I did see what's called a "closed head wound specialist" (translation: a psychologist whose specialty was dealing with the brain injured), it pretty much would heal on its own if left alone. Though, the shrink I was seeing was helpful in explaining why a lot of the things that were going on with me happened, and it was defo helpful to talk to a professional if for no better reason than it gave me a sympathetic ear. Of course, I was also seeing a neurologist, who gave me meds left and right to treat the symptoms in the short term (which actually helped).
Apart from that, it was suggested that I go to a brain injury support group. I never did, being young and too macho for all that touchy feely crap. The one thing I would say about that is don't be like me if you're suffering from the same thing. Looking back, I wish I had gone. I'm sure it would've at least made me feel better to be around people who understood what I was going through in the most tangible of senses. Basically, I just fumbled about in the dark for a couple of years and I'm sure made myself and everybody around me a lot more miserable than necessary at the time...

Unbelievable!! Absolutely incredible on your part to have come out of it.....Pretty sure you came out stronger than ever before....Wishing you the best of luck.....one thing about the neck injury though.....does it still hurt sometimes?? or has it fully healed?? Yikes. Was that before or after the surgery? I never had anything afterward, but imagine trying to play soccer with four ingrown nails (two in each big toe) oozing puss and blood the whole time. It got to the point that for a while I took to bringing a change of socks to matches because if I waited till I got home, the blood would dry and cause my socks to stick to the wounds.

I've dislocated both middle fingers, and I put one of them back in by my self. Recently dislocated my right ring finger, put that one back alone as well. I have a giant scar on my calf whose origins are totally unknown. I got hit by a truck once, mild concussion, but kinda fucked up my hearing.
Recently got gashed in the knee by a renegade tree (holy shit that rhymes).

Autism is serious business and some people connect the thimerosal in vaccines as the cause for it.....
Only people who don't know much about science make that connection. There's actually no evidence whatsoever to connect the MMR vaccine to childhood autism. It's a post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy; a coincidence that the MMR is usually administered around the time children who present with autism do so. The British medical journal that originally published the study that started all the controversy issued a retraction last year. What's not a coincidence, however, is that since that article's publication, use of the MMR vaccine in the UK went down 8% and reported cases of pediatric measles went up 14% (if memory serves). The only other study I know of that made the connection didn't actually even look at how the disease works as it used only anecdotal evidence and therefore was unscientific.
In fact, there are two other possible explanations for autism which actually do have some scientific validity: high mercury levels in seafood consumed by expecting mothers and fucked up genes. From what I understand, the latter of the two is the one researchers put the most stock in, but either way you'll never get any parent of an autistic child to admit those possibilities. My personal theory is that the people who think it comes from the MMR (the ones who actually have autistic children anyway) just can't psychologically handle the thought that they in some way contributed to the disease (not that genetic mutation is anybody's fault, but far be it from me to assume rationality from the average homo sapien).
Sorry for the rant, but this horseshit about the MMR vaccine is a personal pet peeve of mine...

6. On ex cut myself with a Bayonet (I have a cool scar if anyone wants to see)

Some massive weirdo came up to me in town the other day peddling this rubbish and trying to convince me not to get my son vaccinated. He was really persistent. It was so irritating. It's like he was trying to make out I was a terrible mother for not wanting outbreaks of serious diseases, and calling his stupid beliefs bullshit :cursing:

You should've told him that if there was going to be an "autism" outbreak it would've already happened. It is true, there are more people who suffer from the disorder than ever before. Call me crazy, but aren't there more people than ever before? Or, you could've just turned the accusation on its head and accused him of the same thing since he obviously doesn't care about the outbreak of measles, mumps, and rubella which can actually kill kids.
Should've asked him if he likes Alex Jones http://www.revleft.com/vb/../revleft/smilies2/laugh.gif

If Alex Jones is spouting that nonsense, I'm pretty sure he got it from that fuckin' quack Gary Null. The guy's a goddammed lunatic, and all these New Age fuzzheads who are just itching to vilify Western medicine just lap his bullshit up with a spoon. I can't stand those idiots either, btw, because they're just dieing to tell you, "Well, there's a reason homeopathic remedies have been around for thousands of years." Yeah, because fuckwits like you keep forking over cash to have them performed. Besides, you stinky fuckin' hippie you, did it ever occur to you that the life expectancy of the average human living in the first world has gone up over 50% in the last 150 years alone, and that the increase which thousands of years of homeopathy was completely unable to achieve might just have something to do with advances in modern Western medicine?
Anyway, here's (http://www.quackwatch.com/04ConsumerEducation/null.html) a link to a Quack Watch article on Gary Null if anybody's interested. As an aside, you guys will be proud to know I've trolled that guy's funky ass all over the 'net. I wrote a scathing review of his "documentary" Autism: Made in the U.S.A. on Netflix which I'm pretty sure started a firestorm of controversy on that site. I occasionally update it to respond to the assholes who defend him, lulz. If anybody here has an account, my review is under the pseudonym "Big Bill Haywood." I also went on Rotten Tomatoes, found the only guy who gave the documentary a positive review, and sent him a nasty 1500 word e-mail in which I accused him of "dangerously misinforming the public and toying with the lives of children."

Also, I think autism is probably better understood now than it used to be. I did turn the accusation round because it's just stupid that people like him are spreading their bullshit that could lead to outbreaks of some pretty nasty diseases if people believe them.
I also hate homeopathy. I have no idea why anyone would believe that it could possibly work. The most it will do is act as a placebo. It's just water.

Damn, I think that just beats everyone here injury-wise. How long have you served?
I served about 5 years (proudly in 216 (para) and 261 signal squadrons and a short very short stint attached to 2 Parachute Regiment) but I've been out about 2 years after an honourable discharge (for P.T.S.D or Combat stress to use the latest term). I came out (mostly) unscathed and I consider myself luckier than others I know who've lost limbs and their lives.
