Hello everyone, my name is Kevin and I live in Colorado Springs. You may have heard of this wonderful city. We're known for being a cesspool of off the wall, hyper-authoritarian, anti-logic, religious nutcases, and if you knew me five years ago, I too would have fit that description. I now consider myself an "atheistic anti-authoritarian anti-capitalist," and by that I mean I haven't really decided with certainty where I fit on the political spectrum, all I know is that it's on the left. I am against the disproportionate and non-consented accumulation of power by anyone, whether it be economic, or governmental. I suppose that would put me in the anarchist camp, and that would be fine with me. I've been to a meeting of Denver Anarchist Black Cross before, and was very impressed.
I am also very much against urban sprawl, because I see how it harms the revolutionary spirit of our communities. Colorado Springs, despite being a fairly populous place can not accurately be called a city, because we have only a small downtown area that's walkable, and a huge never-ending sea of low density suburban, big-box sprawl. Look up the satellite photos, it's terrible. You have to own a car to get around in the Springs, because only a skeleton of our public transit system exists, and it's doubtful how much longer that will survive. The problem is that people don't see each other on the street. We are isolated in low density suburban neighborhoods, and any time we go somewhere we ride in a car, separated from the world by glass and metal. It's very discouraging. You could take the time to go flyposting or spray some anti-capitalist slogans on a wall, but it wouldn't matter, because nobody walks our streets and no one would see it. You can take the time to talk to a Christian fundi, but nothing can come of it, because the sections of their brains that deal with logic have been completely disengaged or hijacked. My only outlet is the internet and the local freethinker and skeptic groups, though I only find agreement on religious issues there, not so much economic or political.
I am a college student and a wage slave. I never make enough to break even, and there is a steady stream of financial support coming from my parents...along with a steady stream of complaining about how I don't apply myself enough. I do put effort into life, but effort can only take you so far when you exist in a system that is designed to #### you in the ### every chance it gets. I have only found 2-3 other people who even share the tiniest hint of my economic opinions.
In order to calm my rage and treat the isolation I suffer, I fill my ears with revolutionary music. My favorite of all time is Dead Prez, though KRS, Immortal Technique, Consprituality, Corporate Avenger, Anti-Flag, The Unseen, etc. are among my favorites as well. My favorite revolutionary movies are The Edukators (Die Fetten Jahre Sind Vorbei), and Der Baader Meinhof Komplex.
Thanks for listening to me rant. Hopefully being a member of this community will help me to further develop my understanding of what it means to be revolutionary.
