Hello everyone I'm new here. Well I used to be a white racist, but over the past several weeks, I had been wondering "do I really believe in this?" and "Why do I hate these people? What did they ever do to me?" And I finally came to my senses and gave that garbage up. Anyways a little bit more about me. Well my name's Marc and I live in a suburb outside of Chicago.(My family is one of the only poor families in this town.) And I'm a teenager. What branch of leftism? Well I'm mostly interested in Left communism(Still learning more about it though) And how did I become interested in leftism? I had always had a small interest in leftism when I was a racist, and after I gave racism up I decided to do some research on leftism and the ideas really appeal to me.

Yep it only took several weeks. It was defiantly long enough time for me to realize that White supremacy is stupid and wrong. I'm really glad I stopped believing in that garbage.

Welcome, I'm glad you finally see the light. In my humble opinion, however, you've only made the first step. You probably still harbor some racist ideas, albeit, maybe subconsciously, or because you may not fully understand how racism operates in society, at the level of individual prejudices, for example, or more broadly, as systematic and structural forces.

For example, asking, "What did they ever do to me?" is not really productive, in terms of overcoming racism, because some white people have been victimized by people of color, so if this were the only criteria for not being racist, then we'd find a lot of people with justified racist beliefs.

We prefer that people understand that people of color are disadvantaged in our society, a lot of times as the effect of latent racism. They've done studies, for example, that show that black people are more likely to get turned down for loans at the bank. Many of those bank employees who turned them down for the loans, but who might have given the same loan to a white person with the same income, may harbor no conscious racist feelings or ideas. They may have friends who are black, latino or some other category. Most likely, they may not even realize they're being racist, but we know something is happening because this sort of thing has been statistically confirmed many times over.

So, hopefully you'll develop a deeper understanding of race theory by being here and thinking about these things, and I hope I am not sounding pretentious by telling you all this.

Yes that is true, some whites have been victimized by people of color, but that wasn't the case with me, I was just an angry troubled kid and I directed my anger in to hating people who aren't white.
