I guess what I want to discuss centers around racism (was there any in the conflict?) and why was half of America obsessed with this incident?

Sorry, didn't know. I'd still be interested to discuss why half of America was obsessed with this. I think it was obviously the fact a white man "fought back" against, what many people in the suburbs see as "the black threat".

Was the interest in this video based purely in racism? I think so.

I dont know if the dude racist or not, it just looks like two ignorant people fighting to me. It's kind of funny I guess because a younger dude was trying to talk shit to an old guy and got his ass beat, but there's probably at least some racism going on in it's popularity, cause I doubt if it was a old black dude as many people would care.

Pretty much, yeah. Although I'd say judging by that video that the black guy was more to blame for the whole ordeal than the white guy...he seemed to escalate the situation by going up to the front of the bus repeatedly after the old white guy moved, and it looked like he hit him first.

Ya, I don't think beard man is was being racist, I'm more of the opinion the video's popularity was partly due to the race of the two guys.

I would agree, even subconscious tendencies. Everyday social conservatives that claim to not be racist individuals have a stereotypes idea of who it will be in the baggy pants that they disapprove of as revealing and offensive, the rap music they disparage as immoral and corrupting of children, the so-called "welfare queens" that they believe constitute the majority of recipients, etc. Some ostensibly non-racist rightist that I saw commenting on another forum and was gleeful about the video used the word "Leroy" as a generic nickname that he made up for the black man.

yes when you talk to the epic beard man, you realize that this guy is like.. i dunno he has problems, he's quite a loveable character in a way, he's so streetz too. i mean why are uptight rightist loving him, he said in an interview he used to be a pimp and be on the streets. but yeah he went to vietnam apparently and when he came back his mother was dead, he has mental problems i believe or at least he has been through psychological distress , perhaps he saw unspeakable things in vietnam.
