View Full Version : Chit Chat Awards & Survey

Who is going to hold them this year? I really hope they will be arranged as usual.
They are usually held in November or so, but it takes time to come up with the questions, to get enough replies with answers & nominees etc.

I would suggest that instead of asking for people to fill in a long questionaire, you take nominations and then put it up as a poll, which I think would get a lot more replies that usual.

Yes, but that would also require tons of threads and polls. Quite a hassle.

I'd prefer if someone else did them this year. I already have done it once (it's quite a job), I've been absent a lot, and last but not least there are much funnier guys than I here.
I'm not sure about the poll idea. Perhaps it might work for the Survey, but not for the Awards. Imo a great part of the charm of the Awards is the 'ceremony' when the results are announced.

Yes, but you would get more than the usual 12 or so people replying to it. I suppose it depends how much effort somebody wants to put into it.

You should read the rest of the historical Awards in the other sticky to understand the pattern how it works. But the basic principle with the Awards is that one person makes a post with the categories, and then people send their nominations to that person via PM and s/he compiles the awards of the answers and announces them in the regular fashion (category by category) in a new thread.
Usually most regular posters are together in the live chat during the 'ceremony'. In the Survey, a questionnaire is posted and people send their replies by PM, which are then posted as anonymous statistics.
I like the survey, but the Awards are more important imo, perhaps because I once won them. Unfortunately I was the one who arranged them that year, and so I was naturally accused of cheating.

I'd like to volunteer to draft a survey and compile results. I'd give me a chance to dust off my research skills a bit.

Awesome! :) Now we just need someone to hold the awards, unless you want to do them too? That would be great.

I don't know about holding the awards. I don't think I'd have time for it.

Awesome to hear and thank you! I'd advice you to read through the old awards for more ideas, and to see what categories different people have used in the awards. I'm still mad at myself for forgetting one of the most important ones -- n00b of the year -- when I made them 2008.

Alright, so basically if I suggest a category and people like it then users have to PM me with their nominations? Or are there certain people that are usually in charge of certain categories (like funniest, most intelligent, kindest etc.)?

Jazz Remington promised he will take care of them. We now have to wait for him to compile the Award categories and the survey.

I wasn't here last year. What's the dress code? Is this event formal attire? Will there be a band and if so who? Will there be an MC? Can I bring guests? Sorry to have so many questions, its just that this will be my first RevLeft Annual Chit Chat Award Event and I am a bit nervous.

Radiohead or Florence and the machine?
Let's sort out catagories before we go nuts with nominations,
and I can think of worse people then thomas sankara, like the guy who uses his name on revleft.com.
"biggest Bellend"
"wittiest"
"best sig"
"driest sense of humor" (no brainer for sam)
"the best mod in revleft history"
and so on..

My suggestions for categories:
Best avatar
Most verbose poster
King/queen/dear leader/great helmsman/woman of chit-chat
Most impressive facial hair (as described by nominators)
Most similar to Tjis

Last year Fuserg9 made a combined survey/awards. I'm posting it here for JazzRemington to see and use as help, but of course he may do it completely differently this year, that's up to him. :)

It's a bannable offence to say that you'll do them without fulfilling your promise. That is the actual, secret reason why TAT was banned, he did that in 2007.

I'm working on it. But I've a bit of a load the last few weeks, so I probably won't have the new survey out until next week. Any suggestions you can give would be great. Also, Fuserg9, could you tell me how to make the graphs you did last year?

I really don't mean to be a pain in the ass Il Medico, but it will take a while for people to send in the answers, and then for you to compile the results. So if you mean to publish the the results before the end of the year, you're in a bit of a hurry.
If it's too much to do everything at once, start with the awards? Also, just use last years, if you can't decide what categories to involve..

Couple of tips to get the maximal amount of replies: When you post the questionnaire, it should be done in a new thread which you link to in your signature and PM/IM people about, telling them to participate. A separate post should also be made in the reactionary chatter thread in OI.
This time, perhaps we can get an admin to post it as a 'board announcement' as well. I'll ask one of them.
Remember to announce in beforehand when the awards ceremony will be held. And then when it's time, start the Awards thread in Chit Chat and invite everyone to the ceremony in livechat where the results are announced live.
