Hey everyone, I am doing a research paper that looks at the shifting role of the university in the United States and Latin America and how it is affected by larger economic policies such as neoliberalism.
I would like to know if you have any good books or articles you could recommend for me? Particularly what Marx/Lenin/Trotsky had to say on the role that educations plays on the larger society and even what liberals like Hayek and Freidman.
Any other books by any given authors would be useful thanks.

I don't how accessible these are, but Compulsory Miseduction and The Community of Scholars by Paul Goodman are good. Of course there's the old war horse Deschooling Society by Ivan Illich.

They're not exactly current (although a great number of their criticisms still are valid), but the two that I'd recommend in terms of being very critical of modern educational methods and why they're inherently oppressive are Pedagogy of the Oppressed and Education for Critical Consciousness, both by Paulo Freire. I personally hold them both in such high esteem that I view them as critical not just in terms of educational theory but as necessary to becoming a true revolutionary.

Good stuff, I appreciate the requests. Google, however evil it may be, has most of those books online so I'm glad.

You'll probably need to plow your way through these two classics.
