I think it is safe to say that we all conjure up images of the people we are talking to on here based on their online personality (their real personality hopefully), or perhaps I'm just weird, both are equally likely. However, assuming that I am not a freak, how do you picture some members on here?

My List of people who I have a clear idea of. (note an number of these people I actually have seen off of revleft; facebook or in real life, or what not. So this is purely how they come off)

TAT- A big burly bear of a man. Can out drink anyone. Most likely has an epic beard.

Bilan- A tall brunette boy whose life revolves round music, art, books, coffee, and cigarettes. A great man indeed.

Augustwest- The kindly old gentleman. Always is looking for a reasonable solutions and in very interested in compromise, yet can be firm if he has to be. Propably wears nice clothes and has beard that is the envy of any sage.

Sam_B- A Middle aged English man (yes I know he's Scottish. ) whose greatest joy in life is destroying naive 'children' with his scolding quips and pessimism. Very funny indeed.

Marsella- The wicked witch of the left. A legendary figure that haunts the dreams of revleftdean children. A boogie woman of sorts. She is very intelligent and enjoys toying with her victims. Can only be defeated with a squirt gun. Or perhaps a water balloon.

Jazzartt- A young brit, likes his drink and is extremely anti authority. Has a general 'fuck you' attitude about everything and everyone.

bcbm- A crazy hipster. Probably looks like his old avatar. (You know, the one with a beard and sunglasses wearing a hoodie)

Raul Duke- An interesting lad. He is knowledgeable and respected. He also has a love for his contraband. Great music taste.

AK- A likable kid who is too smart for his own good. That's it for now, might do more later...

I have a hard time imagining what people look like if I don't actually have a clue. People tend to become synonymous with their avatars.

It's easier if they don't have an avatar. For instance, I always imagine RED DAVE to be this gruff-voiced old man with huge, deeply suntanned arms.

Then I am afraid you'll be quite confused if the situation ever arises. I once had a haircut kinda like Tennant's though. But that was about as close as I got. Alas, I am not nearly as gorgeous.

A muscular guy. Possibly sort, though probably not. Is either bald or has short hair. Wears a black T-shirt and jeans when bouncing and when you get off you run to your locker and grab your hoodie and bandanna and cause chaos among cops, Nazis, or the like.

I don't imagine you guys. To me you are just symbols appearing on my screen for no apparent reason.

I imagine RED DAVE like that too. I don't know why, it's just what comes to mind from his writing style.

I can't really imagine what most people look like tbh. I tend to associate people with their avatars, so the most memorable people to me are people with cool avatars.

I have no idea how I come across online. Probably a humourless drunkard. I don't think that text conveys personality very well though because there's no expression in it.

nah, been quite out of shape and i have always been more lean than muscular, bald is spot on but with sideburns. when i'm working i need to wear an uniform (black combat boot, black cargo pants, tshirt with the venuelogo, on ocasions i need to wear an suit) in my spare time i indeed almost always wear an hoodie but bandana's are not in style here. we rock the oldschool thin balaclava (http://www.ehatmania.com/images/ski/balaclava/WBC114NFM.jpg) or the cutoff black t-shirt sleeve.

This, pretty much. It's why I can't tell you how I imagine Il Medico and many others to be. Nevertheless, I imagine Sam_b to be a grumpy, old, sarcastic, perpetually drunk Scotsman, NoXion is a technocratic warlord (with a magical staff), pranabjyoti is a lunatic, TVM is a complete moron with no fashion sense (see what I did there?), RED DAVE has a sizable moustache on him, psycho is a hooligan and No Vacancy is a troll lying in wait under the three Billy goat's bridge.

I imagine Wolf Larson as a boyish guy with a round head and ruff hair, whose ears are standing out. He is dressed like Rik in "The Young Ones" and brags about protesting the school meals.

Mari3l I imagine as a girl with plain looks apart from the dreads.

I actually imagined TC as she looked like. The same for Sentinel and RedAnarchist.

BobKindles I actually imagined to have a beard and be somewhat more handsome than he was in IRL.

Sentinel

As we did have a picture thread in the old CC (except for the last year or so due to security reasons), I actually know what most 'veterans' look like, others I have on facebook or MSN. But there have always been those who refuse to post any picture of themselves on the net in any shape or form, which is no doubt smart.

There are also those who refused to do it for so long, that even after I saw their picture I keep going with the mental image I have of them.. For instance I always imagined former admin LSD to be a blond, muscled hero not far from the old soviet propaganda posters. He turned out to look completely different, but I still see the two pictures simultaneously when I think of him.

Anyway of those I haven't met or seen I for some reason imagine Fuserg9 to look very 'regular' (but goodlooking), a 20ish boy of normal lenght and dark hair. As he likes football a lot I usually picture him in a sports outfit of some kind.

Damn, there must be others I have a stubborn mental image of this kind of, but I can't come to think of them, at least not before my morning pipe (yeah, it's 17:07 here, but I'm on holiday from work).

Edit: Indeed, Devrim, another for-me-faceless man is reading this thread. I see him as an old, weather-beaten but handsome warrior; gray/black short hair and no beard, rather (but not overtly) skinny. Dresses respectably.

But mostly we now have newer members, joined after I became less active here, who I haven't had time to form a picture of.

I've seen a lot of RevLeft members before in photos, so I know what many of them look like. The following are people I've never seen before.

I imagine Edelweiss/Malte to have a short beard, long-ish dark brown hair, wearing a t-shirt and jeans and perhaps always carrying a laptop.

Psycho. Old, but badass and experienced man. Like Sam Carter from Deus Ex.

Sam b looks and sounds like Brian from Family Guy.

Thomas Sankara (Adi, whatever) is the cool character from a low-budget blaxploitation movie.

Brother No. 1 and pranabjoti are both 12-year-old Duke Nukem wannabes, except they don't look cool at all.

Rosa is a brunette schoolteacher in a grey pantsuit, glasses, and tightly bunned hair. Like the semi-attractive principal.

Lenina, same thing but more attractive and a lot younger. Plus people actually like her.:D

The Doctor looks like he does in his avatar, except he has a lot of stubble because he's too lazy to shave.

Q is a 20-30 year old young man. Clean shaven, white, somewhat attractive. And just very very average in terms of looks.

TAT is probably a college student that everyone thinks is annoying despite being moderately attractive.

Fuserg is either the jock or the stoner from Breakfast Club. Haven't really decided...jock. yeah, he's the jock.

TAT- A big burly bear of a man. Can out drink anyone. Most likely has an epic beard. That's accurate actually, to my knowledge.

I actually imagined TC as she looked like.I've seen her picture so I have an idea of how she looks like. I also seen a picture of Prairie Fire. Back when people could post pics in the CC. As I can see, those who were there a while back remember.

Stereotype (in my mind) of Most New Members: High-school kid who may or may not be too infatuated with politics, history, and war (or be all into RED ALERT) and/or high school kid who is punk, anaaaaaaarchy, etc.

"Old Guard of Revleft/CC Remnants": (From what I gathered out of 50/75% of the last "recent" CC pics) A varied number of rather "normal" looking people with very 'interesting' or 'unique' aspects to their lives.

bcbm: A cross between a stereotypical hipster and semi-"pomo" 'left-intellectual' (although would loath being called one) who doesn't take anything (online) serious to any degree.

bilan: same but more left-intellectual than hipster, the whole situationist vibe going.

All the technocrats: Nerdy, kinda and not in a bad way. Like, the people who are knowledgeable in science, technology, and have odd taste in things.

Il Medico: a man of classy tastes in perhaps virtually everything, a connoisseur, a worldly kind of person. Good music taste. Besides that, seemingly down-to-earth at times. Is a doctor.

Explosive Situation: A very down-to-earth/realist person, the kind of guy you never have a reason why not to hang out with. Perhaps an amazing person to smoke pot or trip balls with.

Devrim: an old "uncle" type person who knows a lot of interesting shit from world experience (something that can be discerned subtly from his expression/eyes) with a Eugune Hutz style facial hair plus (maybe) epic beard.

RAAN Crew: a varied lot, but many are down-to-earth in some ways while some are a bit far-out. Seemingly cynical of the status/cynical of the left, a cynicism that comes out of a very plain no-bs outlook in life.

kayl: a shy girl with short hair.

TVM: See "stereotype of new revleft member (type 1)" but just being here longer and more knowledgeable. Should really find something more to life besides politics, vanguard, and revolution.

Jazzartt- A young brit, likes his drink and is extremely anti authority. Has a general 'fuck you' attitude about everything and everyone.

Lenina: Perhaps one of those activist woman types, but leftist, more sincere, and perhaps normal-er.

Extreme Anti-revistionists (like Soviet dude, etc): Losers with no friends or something with a warped world-view.

I picture everyone on here as either their avatar or someone who I know.

I picture psycho as an aid at my school who is a normal sized guy but he has an awesome beard and used to be a bouncer so he's pretty muscular.

I imagine this is an invasion as someone who I don't personally know but I have seen around at some punk shows who has a shaved head, tight black jeans, wears black low-cut converse shoes, wears white t-shirts, and has a face kind of like a dinosaur.

I picture kayl as a good friend of mine since kayl and her are pretty similar as far as interests and attitude (also some life experiences I've seen kayl post about are exact things my friend has told me about in her life), based on what I can garner from forum posts. She's short, has brown hair that covers one eye slightly, and is fairly normal looking except that she's the only girl I know who wears cargo shorts.

I'm really curious how people picture me.

EDIT: I see Nin carrying around a ukulele with them on trip around Mexico in a Volkswagen Type 2.

I've never played a Ukelele in my life. (But I have/do play the guitar.) And I did have a '75 Volks Bus when I was 15-18, no joke either, it was a rusted two tone ocean blue/white color with the Volkswagen emblem hung upside down.

AK: Blonde-haired teenage Aussie , medium height, who likes metal and is prone to wear black and shorts
Nin: A traveling revolutionary, a bit on the short side, black-haired, wears varying colored outfits and is latino

I'm only 5'11 with almost black hair. (It's a really, really, really dark brown, and from a distance could be thought black.) I'm not much for colored outfits that involve very bright/vibrant/neon colors.

Il Medico: a man of classy tastes in perhaps virtually everything, a connoisseur, a worldly kind of person. Good music taste. Besides that, seemingly down-to-earth at times. Is a doctor.
Haha! I'm actually really envious of people like that. Those that are worldly yet down to earth at the same time are the best lot. I think of you, Bilan, bcbm, and Explosive Situation in a similar way to be honest.

Devrim- An older Arab man who is ungodly well traveled. Very knowledgeable about people a culture. Intimidating in a way. The Mentor type mixed with the cool uncle.

Explosive Situation- A really chill guy. Would be awesome to just hang out with an smoke a joint. Has a wealth of experince that a man his age shouldn't.

It almost makes me wonder what most of you think I look like. No cheating from those who friended me on Facebook.like dr house.

Yes, a lot of people have said that they imagine people base on their avatars. Unfortunately for Miles, his probably doesn't put across the impression he wants.

Hugh Laurie may have recently become a big success in America with 'House', but I think to viewers who are more familiar with English Television that would not be how they think of him.

I don't watch 'House', but I did see part of an episode once, and thought "Oh my God. Is that Hugh Laurie?" He comes across as quite different than the role that he had previously been typecast in. It really made me think "What a fine actor".

The thing is that for many people, the association with Hugh Laurie is not one of a rugged American doctor, but of an English upper class twit. Its a role that I in the past he used to talk on chat shows about being unable to escape. To me, and I presume other, Hugh Laurie will always bring to mind the typical English aristocratic fool.

It is probably connected to his two most famous characters before he got the House role, Bertram Wilberforce Wooster, Lt. the Honourable George Colhurst St. Barleigh, added to which of course was a superb rendition of the Prince Regent.

Indeed, Devrim, another for-me-faceless man is reading this thread. I see him as an old, weather-beaten but handsome warrior; gray/black short hair and no beard, rather (but not overtly) skinny. Dresses respectably.

The hair is more grey nowadays. I have a (once) athletic build, but could probably do with losing 5 kilos today. I usually wear jeans and a shirt or T-shirt. I do have a suit but save it for when people die or get married.

I imagine Devrim as a stern old dude with a huge beard (like, we're talking Engels-level beard, here) with a grumpy expression on his face when he informs all of the Leninists that, in fact, he personally met Lenin, and that Lenin's handshake was limp and floppy.

I have never had a beard beyondthe one I have after a week's growth (I am lazy about shaving sometimes). Obviously I never met Lenin, but I did once meet a woman who had.

ai, like i just said to adi, dark blond, average length, for an bouncer absolutly lightweight (if i'm in good physical shape i have trouble staying much above 70 kilo's, now i'm about 80) the black is spot on though, the only thing i agree with henry ford on "every collor is fine, as long as its black"

Skinny, pasty, and refuses to wear shorts or flip flops ever even when 97º outside (because he's anti-everything Florida like I was), but sorta hipsterish as opposed to the sk8 kid getup I used to wear.

woops, yeah sorry, keep forgetting that cyprus is an independent country.
for some reason in the netherlands the word cyprus is only used as an holiday destination. As soon as its about politics (and i read a lot more about politics than i go on sunbathing holidays) they talk about greek-cyprus and turkish-cyprus. dont know exactly why, maybe because we have so much turkish immigrants or sommething.

Im not sure i get that.

The modern Greek state has only existed since around 1830. Previously though there had been people called Greeks, amongst which the Cypriots were included.

Many European countries, but not the UK, have a division between 'citizenship' and 'nationality'. For example in the Czech republic it is possible to have an identity card giving you citizenship as Czech, but your nationality as Slovak.

The Cypriots while not being Greeks in a 'citizenship' sense are Greeks in a 'nationality' sense, which English doesn't really differentiate between. In that way the Cypriots are Greeks.

In Turkish the Cypriots are refered to as 'Kıbrıs Rumları' or 'Kıbrıslı Yunanlılar' (Roman or Greek Cypriots-Roman being an old word for Greek), and you also hear the term 'Greek Cypriot' in English.

Right, but I often get asked if I'm Jewish, Hispanic, or whatever - I actually got Turkish recently - and I say, "No, I'm Italian." I've never been to Italy, but in the U.S. that's just kind of implicit, since the vast majority of people here are recent immigrants, relatively speaking.

There are about a dozen people on here I picture as Nestor Makhno or Stalin. If someone else had my avatar, I would picture them as Brer Rabbit.

Yes, but it is a very American way of looking at things. I know some Turkish and Kurdish kids in London with parents who were born in Turkey who regularly go to Turkey, but who identify as being English. I would imagine that by the fourth generation they would even know or care where their great-grandparents were from.

Especially if you go around telling actual Italians that you are Italian.

It'll be similar to how 2nd+ generations of Puerto Ricans in America are like, but if they show up in PR and say "I'm Puerto Rican" people there will not exactly view them as "one of us." Than again, I'm not viewed as "Puerto Rican" (and sometimes am rejected as foreign by people on the island) but at least I was actually born and raised there.

Having never met Q, but knowing DR+1 and having seen a picture of Q, they look quite different. :p Also, I'm pretty sure I've seen you once, but that was a pretty long time ago. I also recently met another Dutch person from Revleft; as soon as he said his name and I heard his accent, I knew who he was. We had quite a few drinks together with some other folks before leaving, but I never got around to telling him that we've "known" each other for quite some time. But perhaps he already knew as well, and was in the same position. In any case, it's kind of creepy when you think about it.

Wanted Man:Normal height, sporty dressing, normal build, basically the fact that you are a fellow footy fan, gives me a specific football fan type the ones i see every day.Allthough thats how i seem to "guess" right now, the stalinist thing, makes me believe i would be "surprised", cause the styles i know bettween the 2 most of the times dont get along.

It's not that far off, although "normal height" in Cyprus might be considered tiny in the Netherlands. I don't look particularly sporty, though. Not really the kind of person to wear sports shirts or tracksuits or something like that. I do like to go to the gym, but I haven't got around to it in ages due to being either too busy or too lazy.

I imagine Devrim sits in chairs like this:

and looks like

But with shorter hair.

Oh come on. I saw FU once in the street (I didn't stop and say hello). He is a small, blond guy.

Blonde? Since when? Maybe it's the buzz cut that helps. Either way when I saw you at the aiport for the first time I actually laughed to myself at how similar you looked.

He does, except he is taller.

Oh come on Dev. I said you were less bald and less fat than I thought you would be. What did I do to deserve this?

Nic.

Where did you get that picture from anyhow? I want to see it again.

Seeing some of these people, for the most part has ruined it for me with some people. However, given the fact that my memory is like a seive, I've forgotten a large portion of the ones I don't see regularly.

The Best Mod in Revleft History: Portly, a little taller than average and clean shaven. Probably wears spectacles.

Il Medico/The Doctor: I told him a while back that I thought he looked like Tom Baker, whilst this isn't strictly true it is the accent I read* all his posts in.

Wanted Man: Even after seeing his photograph I always pictured him as De Baron [a (the?) villian from a dutch tv-program I've never watched] for some reason.

kayl: Short, skinny and short-haired. Probably scowls a lot.

Rosa Liechtenstein: Long white hair, slightly crazy eyes.

psycho: Whilst he's made a number of posts to disabuse people of the notion I still imagine him being a hefty motherfucker.

skinz: At first I thought of him as an average heighted, short-haired, tracksuited young scrote, then he changed his avatar to Johnny Depp as Hunter S. Thompson and that was the image in my mind. Meeting him was, needless to say, a total and utter shock.

Iseul: Severe looking, fit chinese woman. I don't often imagine the kind clothes people wear but for some reason I'm fairly sure she wears white blouses.

NoXion: I know what this reprobate looks like now but before I did I genuinely thought he either looked like or actually was a close friend of mine - mainly thanks to his avatar being the opus mechanicus and his hobby being "stabbing small children in the face".

RED DAVE: Whatever he looks like he looks like that sitting on a rocking chair in front of his house with a shotgun on his knee. He's yelling at the "damn kids" (anyone under 65) again.

Mari3l: Tall, sharply-featured and a little weightier with long blonde hair. This is the description, also, of an old friend of mine that thought she was a werewolf or had a wolf soul or some such nonsense.

AugustWest: The world's gentelest bruiser.

I'm sure I could describe more but these are the ones that jump to mind.

I have no idea. I don't even really remember it. All I remember is that it was dead on.

Nobody has mentioned Jacob Richter/Die Neue Zeit yet. Anyways I imagine him as Karl Kautsky, and I am convinced he literally is Karl Kautsky. If not he is an old German guy with glasses with a white mustache whose eyes and eyebrows permanently looks like he just got surprised. He probably has the biggest bookshelf next to Devrim, and it is all full of boring shit.
