I'm kind of against this protest. I mean, as much as we want to hate on Obama, & I'm not here to support him on anything, but it is true he's increased funding on AIDS programs, & he did support the repealing of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy. I mean, if these protesters were legitimate, wouldn't you have thought they'd go to a republican convention & started this protest, given that they're the one's showing opposition of AIDS program funds, & were also the very reason why the repealing of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy failed, due to republicans banning together against such ruling? I mean, there's a time that's right when to protest on certain matters, & who to protest it at, which I feel they've failed on this one.
What's your thoughts on this?

If anyone needs heckling about AIDS, it's the Pope and the catholic church.

Fuck him. Obama played the gay community; his selling-out of them was complete as early as the Inaugural and the invitation of a theocrat like Rick Warren to preside over it. He has it coming and deserves no less.

You're wrong as usual. That LGBT-activists are taking an aim at the Democrats is a very progressive step indeed. Hopefully other layers of activists will take a more confrontative strategy towards the Democrats as well.

Democrats do need to be pressured on this issue. The only caveat would be that activists have to be careful not to marginalize the issues they are trying advance via tactical missteps.
Obama comes off as the more reasonable party in that exchange, which I presume wasn't what they were looking for.

hm i don't know much about the subject, i am wondering if they should attack the strong symbol of the problem . or perhaps, attack the traitors, then attack the ennemies?

I don't see where the LGBT community comes into this discussion. We're talking about funding AIDS research, I see nothing in the video about the DADT policy or Obama's not supporting gay-marriages. I'm just curious how something like DADT got brought into the discussion.
But if we're talking about funding AIDS research it looks ridiculous to protest Obama I think. I mean you can say he's not doing all he can to solve that issue but I think they're protesting the wrong guy on this one.

Agreed, I think it's easy to criticise Obama, but obviously harder to turn up to a Tea Party Convention, that probably don't support AIDS funding at all. So these activists are disappointing, they could achieve more taking on the Republicans, as opposed to Obama.

You guys wanna know how I read this. Political Theater. Shit like this happens all the time with Obama specifically, and the Democrats in general. Many have already said the obvious, Obama comes out looking like a champ. Plus, the agenda gets pushed through, more AIDS research funding. What's more, we can see how this ultimately helps fend off criticism from the right and the left. From the right, in that arguing against AIDS research funding comes off as callous and cruel. From the left, in that questioning the the extent of the funding, namely, questioning if Obama is doing enough, puts you in the category of those crazies with the signs, doing all that yelling.
If the Republicans are professional fear mongers, the Democrats excel in the extent they will go to put on a good political show. Think Clinton's crocodile tears, or don't tase me bro. I'm sure there are other examples which I can't think of right now. Point is, it's political theater, and they're trying to manipulate you. Fuck that shit.

i cant speak for america but what he says internationally in regards to the funding is pure and utter tripe!! jamaica was told last month that we would not receive funding because we fall under the bracket of "well off" which i can tell you is shit. we cant even take care of the basics, we are woefully short on all medicine and the medicine we do have is way overpriced, but hey what do i know i'm not the great saviour i just live here and volunteer at the AIDS shelter.

Funding AIDS research is an LGBT-issue.
Surely while it clearly affects the LGBT community, it also effects the wider community too, particularly over seas so is not exclusively and LGBT-issue.
