For those of you who like to pass flyers out on the street---- where you only get access to 100 or so people a day---- try carrying out militant propaganda on this forum. Send them invitations to revleft. I'll do the same. It's going to require the joint efforts of many hands to persuade the uninitiated.

Ugh, I read a bit of the forum for my area, and it was a bunch of disgusting yuppies whining about the influx of illegal immigrants and poor people into their neighborhoods. I'm not gonna bother.

Most of the NYC threads are about how to find apartments in "safe" neighborhoods. I haven't found even one political thread. I prefer to post over at Michael Moore's website.

I'm planning on making a move to London from the U.S. in 2011, and as of right now I'm researching the various boroughs looking for information on which neighborhoods I should make a visit to so I can scope out property before I make my move.

The low rent costs and the high percentage of white people (compared to U.S.) in the east-side and south-side neighborhoods certainly appeals to me....because in most metropolises in the U.S....the only way you'll find a legitimate place under 500-USD a month is either outside of the city, or in a predominately black, Asian, or Hispanic neighborhood.

When you go leafleting do you know exactly who you are leafleting to? At least we can demoralize them when they see how smart revolutionaries are and they will see how utterly asinine they are!!! Then they will be completely dispirited.

In my original post I essentially said let's convert these people who use the forum in question. Then several people responded that these are all yuppies and are counter-revolutionaries anyway, so don't bother. Then I said well if that's the case, if they are all 1,000,000 percent counter-revolutionaries then let's demoralize them. Nothing wrong about that.

Though the other forum with 23 million members looks more promising.

Why should they be invited to revleft? certainly there is a much better site to rally the troops to...if they come here, they'll just leave disillusioned with leftist politics forever. :blushing:

So true.

While I'm a big proponent of using modern means of communication to our advantage, this kind of "keyboard revolutionary" activity is just stupid, a waste of time and completely counterproductive.

Got any better idea?? Do you seriously think someone could not be persuaded to our cause through the internet???

I repeat: I'm a big proponent of using modern means of communication to our advantage. Facebook currently has over 500 million users, surely we can use this to further our ideas.

Joining a forum and basically trolling the fuck out of them by arrogantly putting forward our superior ideas, yadda yadda, will only accomplish to alienate people even more from us.

If your idea of being persuasive is "trolling the fuck out of them by arrogantly putting forward our superior ideas" then we really are pushing Sisyphus's boulder up that hill.

The point shouldn't be to just bring more people here. The point should be to improve the quality of dialogue here so that when people do come join for whatever reason, they have a good reason to stay and participate.

At first I thought this was a bad idea, but now I support it because OI appears to be dying. There's just a handful of restricted members who still post regularly, and the quality of the debate has been slipping. We need an influx of angry capitalist sycophants to beat up on!

Internet is under-utilised as a tool for activating people today, but nearly everything is under-utilised today, and the internet is a huge villain in this.

There won't be any progressive change by 500 million facebook users joining or liking a "we dislike capitalism" group.

Well, duh.

I'm merely acknowledging the internet as a communication tool with huge potential. Lenin got excited when he had radio stations within reach and at that point regarded newspapers as retarded backward stuff. If he had known about the internet, he'd have a huge orgasm over it.

But the revolution will not be done over the internet, that much should be obvious to everyone (although I'm not entirely sure if everyone on Revleft gets this, seeing how so many care about their e-life here).

For many revleft users, there's no leftism in their vicinity, hence holding them on to here.

I have noticed a general tendency today, at least in the western world. A lot of people are subscribing to ideologies not because they want to be active in movements nor even want to change society, but because it is a signal about who they are - in short, they are using their political opinions to reflect their "unique individuality", much like other people are listening to hiphop or wearing brand clothes.

Facebook is ripe with that: Politics by single-issue petitions is the clearest example. It won't change anything, but everyone would know that Wilma is against whaling at least.

But they would presumably only need to shut down a few central servers to cut communication?

If there was widespread unrest, the elite would first try to strike at the communication systems.

Uh...but...the internet was developed as a decentralized information system capable of functioning even if single nodes fail. Of course that was pre-commercialization, but I don't think cutting a few central servers will stop the internet from working. Of course, killing facebook and google servers will render thousands or millions unable to survive. Killing the 4chan servers will lead to global rioting.

This is done right now in countries such as China and Iran. And basically it's very simple. Internet for 99% of the population runs through ISP's. If you shut down the few ISP's, you kick out communication. Same for mobiles, etc.

And if you kick out all ISP's or isolate the system to work for the military and police forces? Then you have crippled society.

I'm aware that ISPs go along with de facto centralization, but it's still (technically) possible to bypass them and connect to the internet without using them, or not?

Of course, but it'll require somewhat expensive hardware to do that. And then you could just march to the datacenters and run them under worker control.

Still, this takes time (weeks, months) which can be a serious factor in winning or losing any revolution.
