September 29, European day of direct action!
All to Brussels! (if possible...)

A major day of action organised by the European trade union movement will be held on 29 September. Delegations coming from about 50 trade unions and representing 30 countries will march in the streets of Brussels to protest against austerity measures. Employees cannot be the only ones to pay for the irresponsible speculation of certain financial institutions. In parallel with the Euro-demonstration in Brussels, a general strike will be held in Spain and protest movements are planned in Portugal, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Cyprus, Romania, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Serbia and Ireland. The effort of the trade union organisations is focused on the Euro-demonstration in Brussels, which will include a strong presence of Belgian trade unions, but also delegations from France, Germany, Luxembourg, Austria, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Romania, the United Kingdom, Norway, etc. The European industry federations will also participate in the Euro-demonstration!

I'd like to note that here will be at least one demonstration in sweden as well. I don't know about stockholm yet, but there is a campaign group for a demo in gothenburg.

thanks for the clarification.
I can't understand why his opening speech is not on the joehiggins.eu website, it's got pretty much everything you could want from an first speech of an MEP, a strong condemnation of pretty much all the other MEP's present, of the european parliament and of the EU itself.

The man was bad ass. One bad ass Trotskyite.

I am jealous that people in other countries have such strong leaders.

This would never be said in the States. Glen Beck would have have a heart attack and he would be defamed by the liberals.

Well, I feel quite proud to be a part of the same organization as Joe myself. He actually did a tour of the US not so long ago.

We're stuck with Bernie Sanders! LOL

There's really nothing some politician can do, unless of course he was representing the opinion of the masses. We all know socialist leaning politicians do in fact represent whats in the best interests of the masses but unfortunately, in America the masses aren't gitty with revolution on the mind.

I don't think we can reform our way to socialism anyhow.

I am attending some seminars that day. I live in a very scarcely populated area so there are no demos here, but I hear some of the bigger cities do.

This is a very good thing, even if it fails miserably. Europe desperately needs red co-operation across national borders. This is a good thing to start from. It is a clear message of unity, that even if small the european left is not entirely splintered.
