I've recently begun engaging with autonomist thought after years of putting it off. Much of it is quite fascinating, but, as one who tends to think in terms of history, I think I would get more out of it if I were able to chart the development and ancestry of some of its key ideas. In particular, I'm very interested in the genealogy of the concept/practice of 'prefiguration'. Coming out of a largely anarchist background, this is one of the major attractions of autonomism for me, but I'm hesitant to follow some anarchist commentators and agree that the autonomes simply borrowed it from the libertarians. Where does the concept first appear in autonomist thought? What are the key statements of it? Are there any secondary materials out there on the subject? Thanks for your time.
