My guilt and my shame
Always sell me short, always feel the same
And my face and my soul
Always wear me thin, always under control

But the longest hours you?ll have in your life
Are the ones you sit through to know if you?re right
So I?ll wait but I pray that I'm wrong
Because I think I know what?s going on

So let me get this straight
The only will is my own
I do whatever I want and stay alone
All my decisions make it untouchable and tainted

I'm gonna suffer for the rest of my life
But I will always find a way to survive
I'm not a failure but I know what it?s like
I can take it or leave it or die
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05O5M-GJh8Q&feature=related
I don't care if your world is ending today
Because I wasn't invited to it anyway
You said I tasted famous, so I drew you a heart
But now I'm not an artist I'm a fucking work of art
I got an F and a C and I got a K too
And the only thing that's missing is a ***** like yoU

You wanted perfect
You got your perfect
Now I'm too perfect for someone like you
I was a dandy in your ghetto with a snow white smile
But you'll ever be as perfect whatever you do

What's my name, what's my name?
Hold the S because I am an AINT
What's my name, what's my name?
Hold the S because I am an AINT

bring it on...

I mean, the first one didnt even had lyrics, and GG Allin a nihilist???

edit:scratch that,GG Allin could be considered a nihilist,in a sense that he rejected morality and he "danced on the ruins"...

BEHOLD, a gentle song about the meangingless of life and how that's OK.

"Cause there is no design for life
There's no devil's haircut in my mind
There is not a wonderwall

Considering Corey Taylor is quite the progressive person, im not sure if these lyrics are intentionally nihilistic, or even nihilistic at all.

Nihilism? Music?

The best way to express nihilism through music is to stay silent.

Nihilism is not equivalent to whining.

The best way to express nihilism through music is to stay silent. Well, that depends. If one were talking of moral nihilism, then one could quote 'Jabberwocky'; if one were to be an existential nihilist, one could quote Edward Lear, perhaps.

Meridian

I would disagree, but maybe some people would claim this is 'nihilist':
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQO5C4jXsVk

It is a pretty good song. Most other Swans songs could probably pass too. But I personally don't think nihilism should be confused with depression, as the former is a nonsensical theory while the latter is much more serious.

Another good one:

I think Neurosis sometimes express the same, though they are often heavier:

Why?! You link Cobalt, Xasthur and Godlfesh yet you dislike Neurosis? Of course it is your loss (or not) but I find it kinda weird.

Saying that so many like them is an exaggeration. I think it's just that they are generally respected by people who like heavy/experimental music because their stuff has always been groundbreaking and uncompromising through 25 years. Every artist you linked has been influenced by Neurosis, though with Godflesh it's gone both ways.

If you ever get the chance I can really, really recommend going to a concert of theirs. I saw them in this small rustic hall used to store weapons in WWII (if I remember correctly). The paint was falling off the walls and ceiling, it was beyond words.

When I said many people like them, I was referring to their popularity and the high-level of respect that they garner from the "post"-metal community. I understand that they were groundbreaking, and I know a great deal of the musicians I listen to were highly influenced by them, but I've just never been able to appreciate Neurosis. Which is kind of funny, because I actually really like Red Sparrows and A Storm Of Light. But I've never been able to like a certain group of artists within the post-metal scene, specifically Neurosis, Rosetta, Isis, Cult of Luna, and Melvins.

Oh so many ways for me to show you
How your dogma has abandoned you

Pray to your Christ, to your God
Never taste of the fruit, never stray, never break, never
Choke on a lie even though he's the one who
Did this to you, you never thought to question "Why?"

It's not like you killed someone
It's not like you drove a spiteful spear into his side
Talk to Jesus Christ as if he knows the reasons why

Nine Inch Nails isn't nihilist. He just focuses on how pain can be beautiful but that isn't nihilistic.
Same with A Perfect Circle that song is just about his mom and how she was religious but he is pissed off about how she was paralyzed, which is also why he named the album 10,000 days for Tool. Because his mom was paralyzed for roughly 30 years until she died hence 10,000 days.

Don't feel like taking the time to quote Broadcasting Slience's quote but Dystopia is bad ass. :)

I've often read that The Holy Bible by the Manic street preachers is nihilistic, apart from nihilism being a recurrent theme in their lyrics.
Still, I'm not sure whether this is appropriate, there's a fine line between nihlism and depression or other psychological themes, especially on this album.
E.g. the song "Faster" contains lines like:
I know I believe in nothing but it is my nothing
but overall it's more depressive than anything.

Apart from that album, this song s clearly influenced by Nietzschean thought:

Judge Yr'self

Blessed be the blades
Blessed be the sighs
Dionysus against the crucified

Find your truth
Face your truth
Speak your truth
And be your truth...

(Can't put any youtube links by them, since in Germany youtube is very much restricted in content.)

I fail to see how any of these songs reflect nihilism, bar a few, say, David bowies search and destroy. We should try to remind ourselves exactly what Nihilism is in a practical sense. it doesn't nessecarily function around universal nothingness.
