"There are limits to human intelligence."
So there's no limits to technology?
"The rate of technological advancement has been increasing, so we can only expect it to keep on increasing."
Yeah, math = real world.

The limits on human intelligence are down to biology. Limits that AIs will not share.
"The rate of technological advancement has been increasing, so we can only expect it to keep on increasing."
Yeah, math = real world.
Barring some civilisation-devastating catastrophe, why not?

Am I missing something here? How the hell is that a bad argument?

Or maybe it's because you're a reactionary crypto-primitivist idiot who thinks Hollywood producers know more about AI than the people who actually work in the field.

eh, whatever.
The worst arguments from a transhumanist that came on here was something about the "benefits" of being a cyborg/cybernetic dragon.

Maybe HAL is a better example.
Edit: Being serious now, I just don't see the relevance of singulitarianism. Postulating about how Greater-than-human AI intelligence will affect human society, seems sort-of ridiculous. I think we should concern ourselves with that, once its plausibility is actually materialized.

I dunno, between I Robot, Terminator and 2001: A Space Odyssey, I'd say that Hollywood has put forth a pretty good argument against AI.

but what about wall-e?
Edit: Actually I take that back, wall-e is......kind a fucking boring. Hopefully with the increases in AI intelligence, there'll be shit like that tunnel scene in I robot.
