I've recently been pondering the idea and debating myself....
[QUOTE]A critical look at the life of Latin American revolutionary, Ernesto "Che" Guevara.
After his remains were dug up in Boliva and reburied in Cuba a few years ago, public interest in Che was rekindled. The heroic cult that has developed around him took on new life, as hitherto unknown photos of his Bolivian campaign and two new biographies were published.
Whilst his image - on T-shirts, posters, and beer labels- continues to make money for capitalists, there seems to be a revival among the young in the idea of Che as idealistic hero and fighter for freedom. This hero cult seems to have infected many young radicals, some of whom regard themselves as anarchists. We take a look at his life and ideas...
The truth may be unpalatable to many. After all, the Che cult is still used to obscure the real nature of Castro's Cuba, one of the final bastions of Stalinism. As jaded Stalinists and fel

(Some) Anarchists have a positive opinion on Che, but that's only because of his Anti-Imperialism.

As a person, there is much to admire about the man but the liquidation of the Asociación Libertaria de Cuba and the expulsion of anarchosyndicalist members of the Confederacíon de Trabajadores de Cuba must be remembered.

I'll admit, as a kid living in Mexico and Cuba, I had plenty of Che shirts that came from Cuba, Mexico, etc. The idea of Che in Latin America, and Mexico really does inspire and excite most children and young adults; such as myself in those young days, even if I didn't understand him completely, and just saw him as a guy who wanted to travel and free people from the bad guys. (Naive childhood can't be helped when you're 5 or 6.)
As an Anarchists now, I support his willingness and want to spread Communism to Latin America, just as I have supported Andres Nin's want of constant Revolution like Trotsky. (When he was alive of course.) And I do like how, unlike most Revolutionary Leftists of the time, was critical of himself and what he'd done. Not that he necessarily he opposed the Cuban Revolution, I've never heard that be said before, nor am I implying he did, but his own personal actions in the world, he was critical of; and his ideas. Even before his time with Fidel, when he was on his various motorcycle trips (which he's famous for as well) he was critical of what he thought, so I support and like specific things about him, but can't say I'd fully back him.
