Hey, my name is Paul, and i am here to learn what sort of leftism is for me. I have always had a pull towards leftist style governments, but have never found one single ideology that i could stand behind, rather ideas, or segments of different types. If i had to put down one type of leftism, i would say that the final form of communism (essentially, everything is free, and everyone does their part, or the end of currency) is what i look towards most.
I am a 17 year old senior in high school, and i love to read and expand my knowledge of our world (although i do not enjoy the way it is presented in school). I find myself, at least once a week, getting into arguments with little rich kids/ignorant teachers on styles of economics, and the governments that go with them. I always try to keep an open mind to new ideals, and the fact that everyone has a right to their opinion (no matter how wrong i think it is).
I hope to learn much from this site, and look forward to having new material to work with in my debates.

Think about it, the entire process of governing is done by the people. It is still a form of government, just not a kind we have been used to for so long.

i generally think that a government is an organisation that government oven the population, not an organisation of the population.

Government and state are not the same thing.

It is relevant in that a government is not necessarily an organisation "over the people". Take for example a soviet government.

A government would be any body that governs something, be it a neighborhood council or the supreme soviet.

the government is not the state but it is a part of the state
i think the soviets used representatives not delegates, so this doesn't help
i wouldn't call a direct democratic form of organisation a government
A government would be any body that governs something, be it a neighborhood council or the supreme soviet.
i think this is an overly broad use of the word government

In an anarchist context, "state" refers to a kind of government constituting centralised political power. The other kind of government has no connection to social classes or the state. Government is any body that governs, as Red America has said.
