View Full Version : The Proposal for Translations

As some of you may have noted, I am from Ukraine and, due to the quite generous treatment of e-book pirate activities in our country :D I have been able to accumulate a veritable online library of old Soviet historic books, articles, etc. However, I think that such a library should not lie idle and, judging from the sorry state of modern Western "post-modernist" historiography I believe it useful to share some of these articles with you. However, as they are naturally in Russian, it may take some time to translate them.
So, what article would you prefer that I translated first. Vote for the relevant entry in the poll attached.
EDIT: I am going to visit my dacha this weekend, so the translation would begin most probably on Monday.

 Where is the poll?
Anything related to planning and cybernetics would be cool.
EDIT: Ah, there it is. Go Kirova!!

The first one. Feudalism is often seen as a turning point from pre-capitalist economies and capitalist ones, at least in Europe. For Marxists in particular it's often thought to have laid the groundwork for capitalism in western Europe.

I voted for the oldest one (by subject). The further you go back in time the less reactionary Stalinists historical analysis seems.

First one. Sounds interesting, but then they all do

So, after the results of the poll are more or less representative, I hereby declare that the second option wins, and that from Monday on the translation of the article on the place of 16th century in genesis of capitalism will commence.

Good news, I've completed two thirds of the translation today. That means that at latest tomorrow evening you will see the complete article translated.

I know, the people of the former Soviet Union have been very generous in reproducing their literature online without regard to copyrights. Thanks to this, I have the complete Collected Works of Marx-Engels, Lenin, and the Second and Third Editions of the Great Soviet Encyclopedia in Russian. Too bad the Internet didn't exist thirty years ago, I imagine the literature released from the USSR would have made the collections of Marxists.org and Leninist.biz pale deeply in comparison since the wonderful West in that time  was never too keen on translating Soviet literature into English or French or whatever and so we knew little to nothing about the East except from our propaganda machine about the big Winter Wonderland where everything is gray and everyone is the same, etc.
I have been able to accumulate a veritable online library of old Soviet historic books, articles, etc. Lucky you! My collection must pale in comparison, since I only visit so many Russian websites without incurring the wrath of bringing some computer virus to my hard-drive (I get cautious when browsing websites, I don't like bugs, and since I don't know Russian, navigating their websites or Ukrainian or Belarusian websites makes me nervous and I don't know what I'm looking for half the times anyway.)
I believe it useful to share some of these articles with you. However, as they are naturally in Russian, it may take some time to translate them. Please, please, please do! I love Soviet literature and being the poor bastard that I am who cannot speak or read Russian except for a few words, I have to rely on Google Translate to overcome the linguistic barriers that otherwise would give me access to knowledge. If you could do this, it would be much appreciated.
In regards to which article should be translated first, I'm voting for the Mesopotamia one. I have a big fetish for ancient history, and that would regard as top priority on my list. The other one on feudal structure history would rank second, since the theory of feudalism as a social system as understood by Marx is still sketchy to me.

Don't worry, I'll translate the article on Mesopotamia after the one I have already translated :D.
