Amnesty International is condemning Iraq for holding an estimated 30,000 prisoners without trial, including 10,000 prisoners who were recently transferred from US custody. In a new report, Amnesty documents that Iraqi prisoners are being arbitrarily detained and often beaten to obtain forced confessions. Amnesty said methods of torture used in Iraqi jails included beating with cables and hosepipes, electric shocks to sensitive body parts, and removal of fingernails and toenails. Several prisoners have died in Iraqi custody, possibly as a result of torture and other ill treatment by interrogators and prison guards.
...so much for "Democracy in Iraq."

Hey, I thought Iraq was now the only democracy in the middle east... or am I getting mixed up with another state that has a fuckton of political prisoners?

Amnesty International are pretty comfortable speaking out on issues half way around the world, they should look at issues a little closer to home as well.

I worked in a prison in Iraq. The things the iraqi guards said they would do when we left were chilling.

I think Lebanon is the only real democracy. Israel and Turkey are said to be some sort of democracies... very so-so democracies I guess.

This is what awaits Iran if the U.S. invades.

And we have officially "liberated" Iraq.

Wow... so there is an Iraq edition of Guantanamo... in other words, there is large group of people sitting in confinement; a group in which 70% were in the wrong place at the wrong time... With all of these prison camps and with no to few trials occuring, how can those in the military still promote the belief that we're "over in Iraq to make their lives better" nonsense?

What actually happend? Normal prison stuff (plus mortars and rockets), I didn't see any fucked up shit or abuse, but nobody would do that in front of me if they were smart.
ICOs (Iraqi Correctional Officers) though were fond of talking about how when we left they would kill all prisoners or stop giving them food/water or shit like that.

Oh, I don't know, and don't think its fair to just say yes off hand like that. Who knows what kind of oversight exists.
