Who needs rights? Women? Gays? Disabled? Prisoners? Everyone?
Just what precisely are "Rights" anyway? And why are they needed by a plethora of groups in today's society?
Andrew Armitage examines the background and development of the Civil Rights Movement in the USA from slavery to Obama's presidential tenure, civil rights in Britain and how the European and US models differ.
Up for discussion will be how, or whether, the concept of rights would apply to a socialist society of common ownership and democracy for all. And what stance those struggling for just such a society should take towards civil rights.
