Hello all: I would like to know if there would be a revolution the NASA department of the US government in a socialist-USA? Because as many people here are aware, the NASA space programs are also used for pro-war, pro-miliary purposes. But since there won't be any more imperialist wars, and since there would be more technological investment in a socialist world, i would like to know if there would a possibility for the search and contact with extra-terrestrial civilizations or even the possibility for an official E.T, UFO official disclosure by the new US socialist government?
Thanks

Probably not. It'd just be a big waste of time and money. What would the aliens want with us anyway?
But there better the hell be a full disclosure of all government secrets, or I will be super pissed, and organize a militia and storm Area 51.

You already have SETI.
Besides, why are you guys referring to the revolutionary government as something separate from the people, anyway?

all i can imagine is immediate needs and problems will be looked at before other questions.
personally, id like to see programs like NASA expanded upon though.

there were nummerous space programs with interkosmos researching extra terrestial life, on venus and mars for example. Just look at the number of sci-fi books and movies that come from the soviet union in the 60's till 80's

Maybe we should do passive SETI (which we mostly do)...
There's actually debate around whether we should do passive SETI (look for aliens, alien radio signals, etc) or active SETI (send our own radio signals for hypothetical aliens to receive, etc). Some say active SETI could be dangerous if the hypothetical aliens prove to be malicious.

Passive SETI would be easy to implement; all you'd need is a small research team and something like
[email protected] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/
[email protected]) and you've got something fairly substantial for little cost. A more sophisticated program would be able to process data from other wavelengths such as infra-red, which can be used to detect anomalous heat emissions that might indicate alien megastructures such as Dyson spheres (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyson_sphere).
Active SETI would have to be something for everyone to decide on, and consequently seems unlikely to happen, at least in any significant fashion.
But if an alien civilisation was discovered nearby via passive SETI, would it be a good idea to say hello?
Stuff like that is where friendly AI comes in handy.
