Baidya, Bhattarai defend their political documents
REPUBLICA
KATHMANDU, Sept 11: Maoist leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai has stated that the party should chalk out its roadmap taking into account the international political situation. He said the party should not take any decision that would throw the party into a serious crisis.
The Maoist movement has reached a critical stage in its history where we may face a counter-revolution. So we should chalk out strategic move taking into account the international political situation. We should refrain from taking any hasty decision, a central member quoted Bhattarai as saying during the party Central Committee (CC) meeting, Saturday.
During the meeting, Bhattarai and Senior Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya had defended their separate political documents, which propose for separate political roadmaps for the party.
Bhattarai has argued that the party at this juncture should go for institutionalizing the political achievements, complete the peace process and constitution-drafting. He has argued that the party should use the fronts of parliament, streets and government to bring about a revolutionary change in Nepal.
On the other hand, Senior Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya has been batting for an immediate revolt to achieve the communist political goals, while the political document of Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has taken a vague middle ground, accommodating the views of Dahal and Baidya.
Baidya stated that he is worried that the party may deviate from its ideology and move ahead on the path of the CPN-UML. According to leaders, Baidya was aggressive against Dahal and Bhattarai in his speech.
The party may deviate from its ideology and move ahead on the path of the CPN-UML. --Baidya The party must move ahead through the method of democratic centralism, putting the party"s goal of radical change in the center, a leader quoted Baidya as saying during the meeting.
It is the first time that the Maoist CC saw presentation of three separate political documents, which reflected growing factionalism and ideological divide among the party"s top three leaders.
Dahal will defend his political document on Sunday. The three separate political documents will be discussed at the lower level committees and then at the party plenum, which is likely to be held in November.
